Chapter 1 : New Student

Kim Minji POV

There it is again. My parents are always arguring in their room that's located next to mine. They are always fighting over financial issues. I don't even need an alarm clock or my phone to wake me up in the morning. I'm so fed up listening to their arguments everyday and I have thoughts of running away from home but I am not the reckless type of person to do such a thing, of course.

I am a high schooler and this is my final year studying in this school and my graduation is by the end of this year. New years was yesterday and I'm not the typical type of girl who hangs out with her family and friends, counting down on new years eve til the clock hits 12 a.m. and watch fireworks, welcoming the new year.

To me, every year is the same. Every year we have struggles, stress and problems awaiting for us to solve. And of course, I'm not looking forward to it. So, I wouldn't care less about it. In fact, I sleep on new years eve. And wake up the next day as usual.

It's now 6.00 a.m. Thanks to my parents' loud annoying never ending arguments, I woke up early. Also, it's the first day of school. School doesn't starts until 7.00 a.m. I reached for my phone that's sitting on my night stand and decided to look through my social media accounts.

I'm not really a social person. In my contacts, I only have two of my best friends' numbers, aside from my family members. They are Choi Yuna and Lee Ri Hyo. I don't really have friends other than these two. You know what they say, keep your circle small to avoid problems.

I don't really hang out with my friends outside of school. We only hang out at school most likely. Sometimes we head outdoors for a cup of coffee in a random cafe or either one of our houses. Well, that's when we have group projects or assignments that have to be done.

You might be wondering if I have ever dated in my life. Well, not really. Boys only give you headache. They play around with you and once they're satisfied with their games, they leave you brokenhearted. It has always been like that. It's like a tradition.

I tap on Instagram and started scrolling down my news feed. I usually follow people from school even if we don't talk to each other. More like, acquaintances. And also, youtubers and celebrities. That's how I keep an entertaining feed, I guess.

While I was checking out my social media accounts, all of the sudden my notification bell rang. I swipe down my notification bar and it said "mochichims10 requested to follow you on Instagram." "That's weird", I said to myself. The last time I received a follow request was like 2 years ago.

I was curious of who it is so I tapped on the name and stalked this person's Instagram profile since it's public, unlike mine. Surprisingly, it happened to be a guy and he has 15.7k followers. Judging from his feed, he must be living a wealthy and a happy life. All these photos are aesthetic photos of him from all around the world. I hate to admit it but I kinda envy him. How I wish I have such a life. Since I do not know him, I decided to ignore his follow request.

I took a glance at my clock hanging on my wall and it read " 6.20 a.m. " "What?! But it felt like 5 minutes ago. Oh no I'm late for school! I can't mess up my first day of school!" Panicking, I quickly got off bed and took a quick shower.

After I took a shower, I wore a plain white T-shirt and tucked it in on my tight denim jeans. I took my phone and swung my backpack on my left shoulder and headed downstairs.

As I was about to head down the stairs, I heard my parents are still arguring. I would be lying if I said I wasn't sad to see my family slowly breaking apart. Frowning, I quickly headed downstairs. I guess there will be no homemade breakfast by mom again. I took a granola bar as a light breakfast and walked to school since it's nearby.

(At School)

I quickly went to the office to pick up my schedule and head to my first class.Thank God there are still 10 minutes left before class starts. I went into the classroom and there were already a few students in class. Some of them were sleeping, some of them were talking about their holidays during school break. I headed to the last row and took a seat next to the window.

As I was just about to sit down, both of my crazy friends came running and freaking out at my face. I looked at them surprised.

Yuna shoved her phone in my face and I jumped in shock. "Minji ah, have you seen the famous hot guy's Instagram account?! He's so hot and handsome I can't handle all the heat omg I feel like sweating right now!" said Yuna while fanning herself.

"Yah Minji ah I know you do not drool over boys but for this guy you will definitely fall for him! Just look at him! Just look at his feed oh my God such life goals! I can't relate. How I wish I could date him! " said Ri Hyo while fake crying.

I took Yuna's phone and took a proper glance at the guy's profile that they were so crazy about. My eyes widen when I realize it's the exact same profile I was stalking this morning. Because of that, I nearly arrived late to school.

"Seriously, you two? He's just a random rich ass instagrammer who is just hungry for followers and fame. You don't even know him but you guys are swooning over him like crazy women. He might have the visuals from the outside but you don't even know how he is like in reality. Stop being so obsessed, girls. Focus on studying. "

"Aigooo, that's our girl. She's never drooling over boys. said Yuna while pinching my cheeks. "Yah! stop that! It hurts! Tsk! " while rubbing my cheeks. "Hahaha at this rate you'll never experience any love life during your high school years, my dear. Stop being so strict on yourself. Go out there and live while you're young and experience love! " said Ri Hyo. Yuna nodded as in agreement on what Ri Hyo said. "Aish you two! Get lost! Teacher's about to come soon." Soon the teacher came in and everyone headed back to their seats.

"Good morning, class. I'm Mrs. Lee, please take care of me. I'll be your homeroom teacher for the rest of the year. Again" said Mrs. Lee and the whole class laughed. "Also, there's a new student who will be joining us this year."

What? Not another new student again. This class is already packed and I could hardly breathe with all these people surrounding me. Thank God I chose the back corner seat next to the window.

I looked next to me and saw the empty seat beside me. I guess the new student would be sitting next to me since it's the only empty seat in our class. Whoever the person is, I hope he or she wouldn't be a pain in the ass.

I wonder who the new student might be.. Oh well, whatever. I rested my head on my desk, remain unbothered.
