Lost Home - 3

Staring at Zef, I noticed that he wasn't possessed by a demon, but became one. Bastards.

"Was the power worth the price you paid?" I asked jokingly and he was lightly amused.

"Don't turn this into a mind field, Ryoma, you ran out on me." Zef argued and I stood up to glare at him.

"That's no reason for you to become one of those monsters, I thought you knew better Zef. Looks like I was wrong to ever befriend you,"

A little tipsy though I was, I reached for my dagger which extended into a blade.

It was far from ordinary for a fallen angel to obtain, but I wasn't the average angel either.

"Fighting in you're condition is poor judgement, Ryoma. I guess reckless abandon is what you do best," Zef was nonchalant attitude pisses me off.

I knew I might not make it through this easily, but I'd rather fight until every part of me was exhausted.

There's no tomorrow if you don't fight for one.

I sadly set my gaze on Zef and his eyes were cold. He was not an ounce of the person I knew.

"No amount of pleading will get me to back down, Zef. Demons are the enemy and they took what was left inside me with them." I cringed straightening my posture.

I pulled the blade out, facing the sharp edge horizontally at Zef.

"They'll pay back what they stole with their wretched souls, bet on it." I glared at him with hurt eyes.

He only smirked lightly and I got an extremely bad feeling about this.

He quickly closed the distance between us as I sliced through the air in front of him. He moved fast as he came from behind, knocking me to knees.

I was exasperated as I felt the force of his blow.

"Sadly Ryoma, it feels great to see you like this. It's been how long since you walked out without a word to your best friend?"

I closed my eyes and heard his breathing. It was calm and controlled.

My eyes snapped open as I rose to my feet. "Too long, Zef. I may have left several years ago, but I came back to find a monster replaced one of my best friends."

He lightly scoffed as I noticed my legs were numb and wouldn't budge.

Great. The poppy has made its way into my system, not much time before it spreads to the rest of me.

Time to turn the odds to my favor.

I glanced around for anything to use. There were a few trees and overgrown grass. Not much to work with.

"Go ahead and give in, your just prolonging the predicted outcome." Zef taunted excitedly.

I glanced into those eyes I once used to trust and that I know I couldn't see any more.

"I refuse. I stand to lose nothing but what pride I have lost," I responded as I saw his smile grew at the resiliency of my mettle.

The demon blade was ravenous again as I felt my body numbing to the poppy's effect and I could barely lift my sword hand.

"You sure you want to fight me, Ryoma? We were friends," Zef said as I felt my arm trembling in defiance.

I felt heaviness in my legs and it was getting harder to resist the temptation to rest.

I hated to fight someone I cared about once, but I don't regret this one. Zef was a demon now, I cannot spare him.

I had one shot to finish him and if I hesitate, even for a second, I'll lose.
