My Demon

Reserved Fury - 14

After yesterday, Claudis and I never talked about Ryu or the fact I was the renowned angelic reaper. He never seemed so worried about me before, but I hate to break it to him that he won't get to me. Yea, no one should be close to me anyway. Claudis is a demon lord, but if he chose me over the demon in him, I guess it proves there is still something morally redemptive about demons. Though I strongly believe it's a farce, it never seems to come close to why Claudis is so loyal to me. There's no telling when I'll ever know that, but I have no home to go back to.

I spent what time I could lost in thought and trained on occasion. I mainly just wanted to be outside, and the only place that fulfilled my needs. It was a clear day, but I was restless to the storm brewing inside me. Though Claudis and I made a compromise last night, I still don't think he gets me. For all I know, he could be planning to turn me over to the other demon lords-now, wouldn't that be just great.

I realized I'm no match for the demon lords, but...I won't them get the best of me again. I should've recognized the trap when I saw one that night. I lost because I let myself believe I couldn't lose. I was overconfident, but that hardly explains my defeat to a demon lord who could touch my blade and come at me full force.

I sat under that crooked oak tree and just thought through how much I felt reduced to a child. I knew it was my own fault and accept what I did was childish, but what bothers me about that situation is it happening again. Luck wasn't really a replacement for reckless abandon of the issue why I failed to defeat a demon lord.

Claudis went through the walkway without so much as a glance in my direction. His brows furrowed and the way his eyes burned bright gave me a pretty good idea of how he was feeling. I mean, it wasn't any of my business to know why he was upset, but I wonder...did he really in trouble just for housing me? I got up and felt a demon's presence nearby. "I wouldn't kid, he's in a bad mood." I heard the familiar sound of the demon guy who served Claudis.

Smirking, I leveled my eyes with his. "Not that it's bothering me, he usually doesn't realize how idiotic he is for taking in the enemy. He chose it, not me." I said with as much disinterest as I could muster. "There's no reason he should even care what happens, but like an idiot, he won't listen to me."

The demon guy was silent for a moment. "I just cannot believe your Ryu's older brother. How are you two so different?"

That wiped the smirk off my face and I felt my heart aching again. "Because Ryu is just as ignorant and trusting as our parents. I have always had doubts about demons and they were the ones to take those who were precious from me. We're like night and day. Ryu focused on the positives, but I could only see the darkness of demons' hearts. That answer your question,"

The demon guy basically stared at me unblinkingly as I saw Claudis leave my sight. "You know, my lord is sticking his neck out for you. He had orders to give you over, but makes up excuses to shield you. I don't get why he is so adamant about keeping an angel safe, but if it is what he wishes, I have no right to betray him."

I laughed as my chest started to tighten, and then I saw his eyes narrow at me. "Trust me I don't get it either. I tell him off almost every time we meet, but he won't accept my angry replies. I just wish he'd give up on it, but he has his mind set on saving me from myself. Idiot,"

I crossed my arms and remembered what happened the last time I was here with Ryu. I was badly injured and it was Claudis who found me along with my little brother. I got mad at Ryu and left to go after another demon, to be quite clear it was a demon lord. It ended badly and I lost to the demon only to be missing for a long string of time. The gaps at that point were still locked away. I couldn't remember even if I wanted to know.
