Liam lent against the door frame to the entrance of his apartment, waiting and watching as the numbers above the lift drew her closer and closer to his floor. He'd been waiting here since his men sent him a message informing him that Rowen had left her house and was on the way.
He'd had kicked everyone out of his apartment after he knew she was on the way. He wanted her all to himself, he didn't think that having six heavily armed men surrounding them was a good way to make her open to whatever he was about to tell her.
Not too long after he had sent everyone away, Benjamin called to let him know that Rowen had arrived and that he'd given her a key and she was on her way up. It made him nervous, edgy even, he wanted her here now and it seemed as if the lift was moving slower than it normally would, which wasn't helping him in the slightest.
The rest of his week had been hell without her.
He'd done it all to himself with his self-imposed silent treatment, but he did think it was for the best, even with the number of messages Rowen had sent him and left for him on his voicemail. He'd listened and read everything that she sent him, and even if it was tempting to give in to her and allow her to come around sooner, he did want her to think about what it would mean to be with him.
Out of all the messages she'd left him, he'd gotten one sane voice message, where she wasn't cursing him to hades and back.
"Liam, it's me. I get why you're doing this I do. You want me to think about being back in the Mafia world, possibly seeing that man again and what it might do to me. I already gave up the people that I loved and cared about for that man once, I left my family behind because of him. I am not giving him anyone else. He will not take away another person that I care about.
I'll follow your rules; I'll wait until Friday but do not think I'll do it quietly. I'll leave you messages, I'll send you texts, some of them might even be nice.
But please don't think that I'm going to change my mind. I want you, I want us. If this is your way of pushing me away from you, it won't work. I won't stop caring for you until you tell me you don't care for me. Until that day, I'll stand by your side, because never think that I'll blindly follow you. I will fight you, question you, disagree with you. If that is something you can be okay with, then we have a wonderful future ahead of us.
Until Friday, Cuore Mio."
When she had called him cuore mio, her heart, his own skipped a beat. He never thought that hearing a woman say that she cared for him would affect him as much as hearing Rowen say those words had.
Knowing that he needed to put her out of his thoughts until the time was right, Liam buried himself in work.
Carlos was curious and slightly worried about Liam's sudden maniacal urge to work hard. He'd been distracted with Rowen of late leaving a lot of the work to Carlos, when Liam had turned up and started taking over once more, Carlos was worried enough that he asked him what was wrong.
