My Lion

Lance stroked his hand over the short fur of the cow's repeatedly. Her presence kept him grounded in reality. No, he wasn't stuck in a hyperrealistic dream where he's in space fighting off lavender colored aliens, it was indeed the life that he had still yet not fully come accustom to.

"Paladins, get to your lions. We are starting training in ten doboshes," Allura instructed over the speaker. Lance sighed and gave Kaltenecker one last pat on the head.

"See ya later, girl," he said before blowing a kiss to the animal, who mooed in response. Lance assumed it was a moo of happiness. Somewhat reluctantly, Lance jogged to the armory. By the time he reached the armory, it was vacant. All the armor remained in its respective pods, untouched for the day.

"Aw yeah. I'm early. Score one for Lancy Lance," Lance cheered to himself. He quickly stripped himself of his casual jeans, army green jacket and baseball tee and slipped into his blue paladin uniform. Though, he no longer flew the blue lion, the thought of wearing Keith's armor made his stomach contort and bubble. Once suited up, he kicked the clothes into the pod and began the journey down to his lion. The way seemed convoluted, with a zipline a few hundred feet into a zoomer for at least two doboshes  that leads into the lion.

Lance was still adjusting to the red lion. The speed at which it flew differed greatly from Blue. Being the arm, rather than the leg was also more a arduous task than he had anticipated. Keith helped when he made the initial change but without him, Lance felt that he lost a piece of himself. Without anyone to goodheartedly taunt, he found himself confiding in Kaltenecker rather than the ship's over residents.

When his zoomer reached the controls, Lance noticed a small light blue paper attached smack in the center with a foreign adhesive. Letters scrawled in black ink markered the front of the note. Lance gently picked it up and scanned carefully over the words.

Hey Sharpshooter,
I want my lion back
-Samurai

Tears prickled at the corners of Lance's eyes. Sniffling, he held the note to his chest and smiled sadly.

"I thought you were Loverboy Lance, not Crybaby Lance," a voice from behind said. Lance felt a hand on his shoulder and immediately recognized that voice and that dry humor.

"Keith?" He turned around to see the rightful owner of the red lion standing in front of him. His raven hair fell to his shoulders in the mullet that Lance merciless teased him about.  He was clad in his black tee shirt, jeans and red cropped jacket, which suited him far better than the nondescript Blade of Marmora uniform. The small grin on his face grew into a beaming smile quickly. Lance jumped from his seat and tackled Keith into a hug.

"Hi, Lance." Lance squeezed Keith tighter and cooed into the fabric of the jacket. Keith rubbed circles into the back of Lance's armor and let himself be engulfed by the genuine happiness that was radiating off of the tall boy. Lance let go of Keith but remained barely a few inches apart.

"I'm so happy to see you again."

"Well then you're going to happy a lot the next few months at least."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, that I'm coming back to Team Voltron."

Lance's eyes widened into saucers and engulfed Keith in estatic hug.

"When I say Vol, you say...?"

"Voltron...?" Lance stared back at Keith with the remains of tears still dripping down his face like a waterfall at the death of spring, holding onto his shoulders. He chuckled softly and ran his fingers gingerly down Keith's pale cheeks.

"Welcome back, buddy." Keith pulled him into yet another hug, this one more tender than the others until they felt another warm weight crash into them. The pair opened their eyes to see the other paladins and Coran joining their embrace. Tears dripped down everyone's smiling faces.

Lance tucked the note into his collar and basked in the joy of having Keith returned to him. Everyone but Lance let go of Keith and stood back to watch the two.

"Let's leave these two alone. Keith, you probably want to rest after your long trip here," Shiro said, placing a hand on Keith's shoulder.

"Yeah. Thanks, Shiro." Keith smiled at Shiro and watched him walk out and lean down to talk to Pidge.

"Shiro, I got that all on video for you," she informed, handing him a small device. Shiro laughed like a proud father and smiled, ruffling Pidge's hair.

"Thank you."

"No problem." The rest of team Voltron left, abandoning the pair in the red lion.

"Hey Lance?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you want to go to the pool?  Just us two and hopefully we are more successful than last time."

"That sounds nice."
