Zayn

Payton placed her lips on mine over and over again while we stood together in the pouring rain. It soaked our entire bodies and I could hardly see her face anymore.

I held tightly to her waist while her hands went to the nape of my neck. She kissed me again, holding this one especially long. She pulled away and looked deep into my eyes, breathing heavily.

"Thanks," she whispered.

"For what?" She rested her head in my chest and I put my chin on top of her head.

"Giving me my Kiss In The Rain," she said.

"Oh, you're welcome," I said and kissed her hair.

"Let's get inside," I said, pulling her out of the rain where she was sure to get pneumonia.

"Okay," she whispered and held onto my hand.

I took her to the porch and told her to wait while I went to retrieve the keys from the car. I grabbed my house key from the console and ran back to Payton, who was shivering. I hurried to unlock the door and pushed her inside ahead of me. I helped her take off her shoes and her outer layer of clothing so that she was before me in her tank and jeans. I took off my shirt and shoes and ran to the linen closet to grab towels. I handed her a white cotton towel and took one for myself. We dried off and she handed me the towel.

"Can I shower?" She asked.

"Of course." I led her up to my room and into the bathroom. I got out a new towel for her and set it on the sink counter. I got her some of my boxers and a gray tee. "All set." She appeared behind me and I backed out of the bathroom. She close the door and I heard the water start.

I stripped out of my jeans and boxers quickly, replacing them with new boxers. I walked downstairs and gathered up all of our wet clothes. I stuck them in the dryer for a while and walked back upstairs. It wasn't until five minutes later when she exited the bathroom adorned in my shirt and bottoms.

She smiled warmly at me and walked over to the bed.

"Are your clothes in there?" I pointed to the bathroom. She nodded and I grabbed her tank, jeans, and underwear from the cold tile floor. "I'm going to stick them in the dryer for a while. Be right back," I said, walking out.

I did as I said and returned back to her. She was already under the covers and her eyes were gently shut. Her breathing was kind of heavy and her lips were parted, but she was awake.

"Pay," I called. She mumbled in response. "I'm getting in the shower." She nodded and I proceeded to the restroom.

I washed today's event off of my body regretfully. Yes, I wanted to rid myself of Brent's words and Mrs. Huertas' scolding, but not of any traces of Payton. When I woke up with her this morning, when we held hands to school, when her hand was on my knee, and the kiss. Our exceptionally wonderful, amazingly beautiful, and phenomenally exciting kiss. It was one of those kisses that you hear about but never feel, the ones where the fireworks explode and you feel like the world melts around you. The kisses where no one and nothing matters, only the two of you. And I had just experienced that with my best friend.

I guess she's not really my best friend anymore since we shared that intimate moment.

The water runs cold and interrupts my life decisions. I turn around and flip the water off. I climb out and grab my towel. I pull my boxers back on and fluff my hair to dry it a bit. I walk out, turning the light out on the way.

"Zayn?" Payton whispers. I was sure she would be asleep by now.

"Yes, Payton?" I climb into the bed with her and pull her close to me.

"Do you realize, that if you turn your last name around, it makes kilam. So you could be like, Zayn Kilam." She says it with so much seriousness and I debate whether to laugh or not.

"Payton, you think way to hard," I said and kissed the back of her head.

"No, you can't ever think too hard," she said. We drifted off after that. I held her close all night.
