I was awoken by the sound of breaking glass, someone was in the house, I reached over to turn the bed side light on but the power was out, of course it was out, if you’re going to rob a house you hit the safety switch before entering. Then it came to me, up the hall way, voices and a lot more than just two or three. Before I could even get up to make an escape they burst into the room, I could see guns they all had battle rifles and they were all in black spec ops armour, then I noticed the gas masks, but before I could even ask myself what they were for, a horrible smell caught my nose, my vision blurred and the last thing I saw before I passed out was arms reaching for me.

When I woke up I was in a brightly coloured room, not the kind of place you keep a prisoner, but the one thing that seemed to draw the most attention was the sign above the bed ‘Welcome to your new life but not your new room.’ I sat up, the bed was a king size, the room was huge, you could see the kitchen, lounge, laundry, and bathroom it was like the entire building didn’t have any internal walls. Whoever lived here lived alone or their relationship was very open. The only thing that struck me odd was the lack of windows, the more I looked around the more I realised the place had no windows at all and only one door. As a stood up I looked around some more then I walked to the kitchen, opened the fridge and cupboards everything was full, I pulled out the toaster and some bread out of the fridge, found the strawberry jam and before I knew it, I had eaten about six slices of toast with my next batch in the toaster, I flicked on the kettle and found the mugs, I picked out the biggest one I could see and found the sugar jar, both white sugar and raw sugar had been mixed in this jar so I scooped two teaspoons in and found a normal tea bag in amongst the huge variety of tea they had. The toaster popped at the same time as the kettle clicked and I decided I was more hungry than thirsty and so I found the knife in the strawberry jam again and the toast soon found its way to my mouth while I poured hot water into my mug. I had already finished my current piece of toast by the time I had put the milk in my cuppa tea. I looked at the toaster and shook my head, don’t wanna eat them out of house and home. So I turned the toaster off and grabbed my cuppa and last piece of toast and went looking for something that could give me a sense of time. But the more I looked the less I found, there was nothing at all that could even indicate a date let alone a time. This was the kind of house where you slept when tired and got up when awake. But the one thing that struck me as odd was that sigh above the bed, it didn’t matter where I stood in the room it always seemed to be reading strait at me, even when I decided to look at it upside down by lying on the couch and putting my head where my feet should have been it still read the right way ‘Welcome to your new life but not your new room.’ It never changed visible angle or anything, to be honest it was kind of creeping me out more than the open bathroom, what if someone walked through the door while someone was having a shower? And then something odd happened it was like a fog had been lifted from my head and I walked over to the door and tried to open it, it didn’t open of cause, it had to be locked from the outside, I was a prisoner after all. So I went back to the bed and sat my cuppa of the bed side, then laid back down, if I was going to be a prisoner I was at last going to make the most out of this room and so I closed my eyes and before I knew it I was awake again. I looked at my cuppa, dunked a finger into “OWE!” it was hotter now than when I made it. So much for that grand idea of using its temperature to tell how much time had passed. Half an hour is all it takes for a cuppa to go cold, two hours and you can see the milk start separating and well four hours, I would not even look at it after four hours. So I did the only thing I could do, close my eyes again and try to sleep.
