Gun shots could be heard over the banging on the steel fence around town. Dad jumped back in the truck and drove off blasting the horn drawing attention; he must have weapons in there somewhere. I pulled my staff out of my bag and ran to the gate “what’s our weakest point?” the man I spoke to shot a zombie in the head but it didn’t appear to slow it down “that would be the gates, if you feel like helping drop the stick and grab a gun” I braced the stick and then I saw the shadows of zombies form shapes and the shapes were not what anyone expects when they hear the word zombie, these zombies were resurrected from road kill animals and other things, a zombie emu charged up to the gate and stuck it head through grabbing the gun in the man’s hand because he was standing to close, reflex kicked in and I flicked the staff around and brought it down on the emu’s neck and then to my surprise out the other side of its neck, its head fell to the ground and kicked it in the back of its head back under the fence. I heard the truck horn stop and then the very distinct sound I knew of truck doors opening and then more people arrived at the gate. One of them spoke “they seem to be coming from the east tonight; the other gates have got nothing near as much as this” I looked around, anyone and everyone who could hold a gun had one and was shooting though the fence at the zombie animals. They were starting to get closer and I saw two kangaroos bounding towards the gate “is it tall enough?” the man shot the kangaroo but it kept coming “for most yes, but we have had one or two get in recently” I stepped back waiting for the first one to jump over “I’ll get any that get over, don’t worry about me” and true to my word the first kangaroo jumped over the fence and I swung my staff at it like a baseball bat while it was still it the air, it folded over my staff and slid of the end being flung back over the gate, I was not so lucky with the second one that landed out of hit range so I charged it and struck my spear though the side of its head, then I pulled out my staff and swung wide and when my staff connected with it next it removed its head. The body jumped and moved randomly till it fell over and gave up trying. The somewhere behind me I heard a screen, the first kangaroo had jumped the fence again and landed on someone, the scream was cut off before I could reach the person and the kangaroo was in the process of charging its next victim when the earth rose up though its body ripping it apart like paper. I lowered my hand and the earth resided. I looked at the hoard of zombies pissed; there will be no more deaths tonight, not at this gate. I picked up the dead man gun and put my staff on my back, I checked the gun for its ammo and it was empty so I reloaded it. Just as I was taking aim, I heard a scream again and as I looked a gun was vanishing though the fence and I ran over handing the girl that jut lost her gun the one I just picked up then drew my staff again. I ran up to the raised look out and looked at the zombie hoard. Then something near the back flung other zombies into the air, it was charging though its own allies and then we all saw it, it was a huge bull, with horns that looked like they had been sharpened and it was heading right for the gate, all the guns at this wall opened fire on the bull but it didn’t stop, didn’t falter, and didn’t slow, I raised my hand and it charged though the wall of earth I had thrown in its path. I then looked at what it was aiming for, the middle of the gate; it was going to try to be a battering ram, and I had to stop it, I pointed at the ground around the gate and turn it sharp making a wall of spears out of earth. The bull didn’t think twice when it saw them, it just charged strait into them, then I flexed my fingers while it was bashing its horns on the door and the earth spears flexed and ripped outwards tearing the bull apart from the inside. That caused the zombie hoard to falter but it had resumed it charge, some were trying to climb the fence but shot guns where keeping them from getting over, we have no idea how long we were fighting them for, we all took a huge sigh of relief when we saw the sun rise and the zombie hoard retreat for the day.
