36. Desperate Measures

The following morning I put my armor on and went to check with Melek for any news of Ral. As I walked in I got blasted with a bolt of lightning that threw me across the road and into a fire hydrant. I looked at up at Ral who was standing in the doorway “what was that for?” I almost yelled. “I know what you are, I saw you in an alley way, now give her up so we may kill her” and with that Melek and half the other guild members stepped from beside the doorway into the doorway around Ral. “she is different, if you think she is the haze of hell, you are wrong” I said as I stood up “a haze is a haze and all haze’s are dangerous, it takes forcing them to have mortal form to be able to kill them, I cannot believe you bonded with one” Ral almost spat the words as me “I don’t want to fight you, any of you, we have a dragon maze to focus on and we cannot afford to lose, you know what happens if we lose, if you really want her, you can have her AFTER we finish the maze” Someone else blasted me with lightning and I flipped backwards over the fire hydrant “that’s not good enough” he said “we want her now” that rose some cheers and agreements of various forms from the guild members <I have a plan> I heard Cov say. I stood up again “so you’re going to beat me up to get to force her out?” Ral dropped his head “if we have to” I felt a hand on my upper back and I knew Cov was standing behind me out of sight “then come and get me” both me and Cov spoke at the same time. The guild members froze. Cov slid her hand down my back as she stepped from behind me to beside me “well, here I am, what are you waiting for? Come and get me” Ral looked at her “your serious aren’t you, your willing to expose yourself so we don’t hurt John, you must really care for him, I never knew a haze could care for someone” Cov smiled “I have discovered feelings and emotions thanks to john, and I understand your anger, most of us live our eternity being cruel to any who crosses there path, but I made john who he is, I have been the voice in his head all his life, and though him I learnt what no other haze has ever learnt, I learnt love, trust, the feeling on mortality. You may call me a haze but I am now basically human, I have all the human needs of eat and sleep, I can even see as you see, the first time I saw a TV show I was blown away, I may now be bound to a mortal life span, but I would not change a thing” and with that Cov leaned in and kissed me on the cheek. I could see everyone had relaxed. I saw a spark behind someone next to Ral yell “LIES!” I jumped in front of Cov and the lightning bolt hit me instead of her. The blast pushed me back and I felt myself collide with Cov but I didn’t feel my squash Cov between me and the window I was blasted though <don’t worry, I’m same> she said <thank god> I replied. I stood up inside the building on the broken glass and looked back through the window. I looked at them all, I could see the one who though the lightning from this angle. I pointed at him “YOU!” then I noticed the shard of glass in my arm and pulled it out flicking it to the ground. The crowd around the person parted and I stepped through the window. He looked nervous and that was good “DON’T YOU EVER HIT ME AGAIN!” he stepped back and I knew my message had got across. I turn and started to walk away “JOHN WAIT!” I heard Ral yell and then I heard footsteps. I turned to Ral who was almost standing on top of me “yes?” I sighed “you have glass all though your back” he said worried “well pull it out for me” I said as I turned on the spot. “Ok” I felt Ral pull a shard out of my head, neck, legs and a lot out of my back “how are you still alive?” he asked “don’t ask me, this would now be the third time in my life I should have died” I replied as I looked at my arms checking for glass. The cut had healed over already “is this the haze’s magic?” Ral asked “this is not Haze magic, I picked Ian from birth because I noticed something different about him, sure we gave him his magic, but we did not give him his healing ability” Cov said with her voice though my mouth “I still don’t trust you, but I trust John and if John trusts you, then I’ll accept you” Ral said “oh, and my name Is Coventeena, not the haze, the Haze’s are a primitive species compared to what I know now” Cov said using her voice again “oh and all done” said Ral. I turned “thanks for that and please try to explain to the others that Cov is not actually dangerous as you all think” I said “you two must be really close” “we are” we both said and it kind of sounded funny and Ral laughed a bit “you both seem to almost think the same” Ral noted “we can read each other’s mind when we permit it to be read” Cov said “no secrets between us” I added. “That speech must take some getting used to” Ral said “it’s not actually that hard” we both said at the same time again. Ral held back a laugh “cya later I guess, I have a Maze to get back to” Ral said and walked off back to the guild “cya” I nodded back and went my own way. <You really know how to give a speech> I said <I know, and thanks to knowledge you forgot I had all the right information for giving a speech at my fingertips> Cov replied <what do you mean?> I asked <all those books you read during your first six months> Cov said <oh, I had forgotten half of them by the time Ezio stabbed me that time> I pointed out <you did not forget them, they just lost their relevance when you were let out of the room> Cov pointed out back at me ending the conversation.
