Carrie Izo. I stare at the name on the piece of paper taped on my balcony door. My instructions are clear. I'm required to bring in the Mind Chaser that I saw on the roof of Monanie weeks ago. The Organization must be ready to use her. I don't want to be the one to bring her in. The Skater Boys could do it, although I'm sure they've been suspended after that incident during the sweep. No. I have to do it. It's not like I know her personally.
I get dressed for class and hurry out of my townhouse. I'm almost late for first period. Since I've been watching Carrie for a while now, I know her full schedule. She likes to eat lunch alone since her boyfriend, Antonio, spends lunch period doing extra weapon training.
My gut is telling me this is wrong. The blood and bone extractions are useful for the antidote, but I don't believe in the use of Mind Chasers.
I slum around school for the first few classes until lunch. I keep my backpack close to me, my stun gun and sword safely tucked inside. Taking down Carrie in a crowded academy will be difficult, but there are a lot of places to hide an unconscious girl.
The lunch bell rings. I take my time walking to Carrie's locker waiting for her to arrive. I breathe in and out slowly to try to calm my heart rate. I lean against the metal doors staring at the ceiling. The halls quiet down before she shows up.
"Can I help you with something?" Carrie asks as she walks up to her locker and opens it.
"Yes, actually, I needed to ask you a favor. I need some advice about switching weaponry classes. I noticed that guy you hang around, Antonio I think is his name, is close to the professor and I was wondering if you could talk to him for me."
"Why don't you just go talk to him?" She shoves some books into her locker and closes the door.
"I would, but I know you two have a thing and maybe you could—"
"Wait, aren't you dating Ronan?"
Shit.
"What? No...I went on one date with him..."
"So, what's the real reason you want to speak with my Tony?" She folds her arms staring at me with hate in her eyes.
"I have no personal interest with him, I just—"
"Look I can't help you and I have a lot of things to deal with myself. So, go talk to Tony, or better yet, the actual professor."
Carrie walks away toward the courtyard. I follow behind her and grab her arm. "I know what you are. You're a Mind Chaser, right?"
"What does that have to do with anything? Let my arm go."
"I need you to come with me," I say, pulling her toward an empty classroom. She yanks her arm out of my grip.
"You're out of your mind! Leave before I call security."
If she wants to do this the hard way, then I'm fine with that. I reach into the side pocket of my backpack and pull out my stun gun knuckles.
"You need to come with me. I won't ask again."
Carrie's eyes widen as she opens her mouth to scream. Before a single sound can escape her lips, I electrocute her. She falls to the floor instantly. As her body shakes violently, I grab her foot and drag her into a close by empty classroom closing the door behind me.
"Why are you doing this?"
I roll her over onto her stomach and tie her hands behind her back using a large zip tie. Then I sit down in a desk staring at her on the floor.
