"What were you thinking?" Lynn's voice screams in my ears through my blanket. I groan as I roll over to look at the clock. 6:28am.
"What are you talking about?" I respond half asleep.
She sits down on the corner of my bed. "You were with that boy last night, weren't you? Do you think you weren't followed?"
My eyes shoot open. I fling the blanket off me and sit up. No one is in my room. It was a dream. I turn to look at the clock: 7:32 am. Am I stressing out over nothing, or was Lynn really in my room?
I crawl out of bed and check my email for anything from The Organization. Nothing. No calls from anyone either. Maybe I was just dreaming.
Yawning, I walk into my bathroom to take a hot shower. The steamy water calms me down. I'm freaking out over nothing. No one followed me last night. No one knows I was with Ronan. If they did, they would've said something about it.
I get dressed in my school uniform and head to Monanie. As I walk, I open my notebook and flip through the pages. There are eleven more hunts on this list, but none of the faces look familiar. I doubt any of them goes to the academy. Once I'm done with this list, I'm sure I'll get new orders to leave Monanie for another undercover assignment.
Ronan sits in the courtyard talking with his friends. I can't look at him. I walk past them and he doesn't even bother to call out to me. Maybe he doesn't see me. I want to speak to him...to say something. No, I can't talk to him. Clamping my teeth down, I keep walking.
Everything from last night replays in my head. It was stupid to go to a boy's house, especially Ronan's house. I hate how last night ended, but what can I say? The best thing to do is stay away from one another.
It's almost as if David, Zach, and Akairo appear out of nowhere. My attempt to walk past them fails. David stands in my way.
Pressing my tongue into my cheek, I take in a long breath.
"What do you want?" I ask with my fist balled. I'm going through enough problems as it is.
David grins. "We wanted to say 'hello' to the huntress." He takes a step closer to me. "You've been busy."
I roll my eyes and push past him. "Leave me alone."
David grabs my arm and pulls me back. "You're such a hardass." He licks his teeth staring at me with lust in his eyes. "That attitude will get you in trouble."
"Back off." I pull away from his grip and walk toward the front door of the school.
Zach runs up to me and reaches for my arm. I move away before he can grab me.
"I said back off! I don't need your crap today."
"Fine, little bitch," Zach snaps. "We're on the same team, you know."
"I know which team I'm on, but I'm not psychotic like you three assholes." I turn to make my way into the school leaving those idiots behind.
"Maybe we should just go tell your boyfriend 'hello'," David yells after me.
I ignore him. There's no telling how they found out about Ronan, but if the Insiders were following me then everyone in the agency knows.
Classes haven't started yet so I find somewhere quiet to sit away from everyone. The first place I think of is the roof. I can sneak up there without security spotting me.
I rush up the steps to the roof access door. I can already hear the sound of the salty wind blowing through the cracks of the door. I open it and find a spot to sit close to the edge. I try to clear my mind and focus on my training. I'm a Hunter, not a weak teenage girl.
