"I don't understand how you cannot look at her. I believe she's a beauty." We rolled out eyes towards Ashton comment on Beatrice, the school's practical geek. She has these horrible glasses that hung to her face and this big goofy hair. Ashton was practically head over heels for her, whom I give credit to; he always found the inner beauty in girls.
"Ashton, just go for Margaret. She wants you!" Calum patted Ashton on the back and pushed him forward to Margaret standing against the lockers. Ashton shook his head no and turned back to us.
"No way in hell. She over uses the word cool. Like, cool this, cool that. Omg, that is so cool. I don't date girls that over use that word." Ashton seemed proud of the fact he studied on who he wanted to date. I guess he stuck on Beatrice.
"Well, go win Beatrice then." I pointed out. Ashton looked at me as if I was a complete idiot.
"I can't do that! That's lame. I have to do something better." I shook my head at his response and we left school. Occasionally, we'd stay to watch the cheerleaders practice.
"Hey Luke!" As if my day was getting better with Ashton's love problems, Louis has to come a ruin it all.
"Just keep walking." I reassured the boys as we continued to walk the sidewalk home.
"Don't walk away from my Hemming's!" I turned around and glared at him with my good eye. His friends laughed at pointed to the bruised area. Louis smirked and they walked the other way, leaving us alone.
"Now that that prick is gone. Who's up for my mom's famous chicken pot pie!" Calum exclaimed seeming more excited about his mother's cooking than us. I shrugged my shoulders not minding. Michael fist pumped and we followed Calum to his house with the many talks about girls and games.
We passed Jay Blue's house and it all seemed to be slow-mo. We walked carefully gazing at the house. Jay Blue wasn't at her window but I know she'd be at her rooftop tonight. I can see her again and I can finally come to the answer of why she's up there. I know I should've asked before but when do you just ask 'why do you sit at your rooftop at night. Are you normal?' No, you never ask a girl that.
We finished gazing at the house and continued to Calum's silently.
-
"Thank you Ms. Hood for the lovely treat," I spoke while we headed to the front door to leave. Michael and Ashton waved goodbye as well as I.
"You're welcome boys, but can I have a word with you Luke?" I nodded my head yes and ventured back to the kitchen. She had her pale yellow apron on and set her hands against the counter.
She didn't speak until Calum left the room and Ashton and Michael were gone. I was beginning to get more nervous.
"I've noticed you've taken a liking in that McClean girl." I could easily tell this was going to be an uncomfortable conversation.
"Well, I-"
"Exactly. You don't know what you want. Boys never do." Ms. Hood was divorced and has always been down a dark hole. I didn't want to engage into what I wanted from Jay Blue. No one could ever understand.
"Ms. Hood, I best be going. We may talk later if you like." I suggested. I didn't want to sound so rude to her. Ms. Hood wiped her eyes from the few tears that trickled down her cheek. She nodded and I left the house silently.
I do like Jay Blue. I feel like I'm falling deeper and deeper into her heart and I may not know how to get out. She's all I think about constantly.
I walked back home with my pockets in my hands and thought hard about Jay Blue. She was a mysterious girl. Weeks ago she was the popular girl, everyone loved her now everyone is scared of her likes she's a curse. It's crazy how your mistakes can turn everyone against you.
I arrived at my house to see my mother with her arms crossed against her chest, like she did when I was either in trouble or something is annoying her.
"Luke, your father and I need to speak with you." She turned her back like a stuck up person would. I rolled my eyes and followed her inside to meet my dad's crystal blue eyes. He was my favorite out of my parents, but lately we haven't been close because of his work. Mom pointed to a seat at the kitchen table and we all sat down. My dad looked worried of something and I knew it wasn't going to be a good talk, like with Ms. Hood.
"Son, your mother and I love each other very much but," my dad took a deep breath. Something big was about to be said and all the horrible scenarios went through my head.
"Dear, what your father is trying to say is that we are getting a divorce." My mother faintly smiled and i soon felt the inside of me break apart. I looked back and forth to dad and mom.
"What?" I gasped. This can't be happening.
"Son, your mother, well she was," my dad looked heartbroken as he was going to finish. I looked to my mom for the answer and she rolled her eyes to my dad's weary speech.
"I had an affair. You have until Friday to choose who you want to stay with." My mom spoke bitterly. I shook my head constantly and stood up. I ignored their shouts to me and I left my house. That house is now nothing to me. It doesn't hold anything but a broken family now.
I raced on my bike to the old rail road tracks outside the skirts of this town. My stomach bubbled with rage and tears streamed down my eyes.
This news was so unexpected, it was clear out of the blue. Why- How could this of happen? I did something. It was probably because I didn't pay much attention to them lately, mom turned mad and went off with another man all because of me. I spent too much time alone, away from them. I'm a horrible son.
