We were twenty when I proposed to her. It was at the gazebo we danced at to the tune we were unknown to.
I now know that tune; it was our hearts beating together to our love. It was fate and I now know that
We had two beautiful children named Tatum and Brian. They meant everything to me. When they were about nine, Jay Blue was pregnant again. We all were excited to welcome another member to our family.
My father did remarry to get over my mother who hasn't got the nerve to speak to me. It's been 12 years since she last spoke to me and I've accepted that. I've realized you just have to move on without people in your life.
It was a Sunday I remember now how the day exactly went:
"Daddy, mommy's crying," Brian shook running from the bathroom. I raced to the bathroom to see my wife leaning over grabbing her belly.
"Babe, my water broke. I need to go," she whispered in pain. I carried her to the car and placed her in the back seat and told Tatum and Brain to get in the car we had. I raced to the hospital excited and overwhelmed to see our new child.
They quickly placed her in a room, her contractions pretty close.
"You're doing fine baby," I said as I held her hand. She smiled and cupped my face with her small hands.
"You know, you're the greatest thing that ever happened to me." A tear escaped her eyes. I wiped them away and kissed her cherry lips.
"You're the greatest person out there and I'm lucky to have you darlin," I smiled kissing her again.
"Okay let's have a look," the doctor spoke taking a look down there. "Oh wow, Mr. and Mrs. Hemmings, I believe the baby is coming sooner than I thought."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"I mean the baby is coming at this moment. Please go get your scrubs on and hurry!" I nodded and kissed Jay Blue's hand and raced around the corner to tell Brian and Tatum the baby is coming.
"Ready for a new brother or sister?" I asked smiling. They jumped up and it made me smile with pure joy. I noticed my dad and Suzanne, his new wife, sitting in one of the chairs. Jay Blue's sisters were here as they waited for their new niece or nephew. I quickly greeted them and left to hurry back to Jay Blue.
I slipped into the scrubs and hurried back into the room where I could here Jay Blue's cry of pain.
"Baby it's okay," I said grabbing her hand, she quickly squeezed my hand.
"No!" She screamed with agony. The doctor yelled push and she pushed with all her might. It was scaring me to see how much pain she was in; she was never in this much pain before.
Then I noticed it, the blood. It was dropping out and I almost said something stupid. The doctor yelled one more push and then I heard the cry of air.
"It's a boy!" The doc it exclaimed holding the baby out. Jay Blue was barely awake and I walked towards the baby crying as they were cleaning him. I cut the cord and tried to ignore all the blood that was there. I held our baby boy in my hands as I walked to Jay Blue's bed side.
"Jay Blue, sweetie?" I shrugged her but she wouldn't wake up. The beeping monitor wasn't beeping. "Jay Blue?"
"Oh my," one of the nurses spoke and checked on Jay Blue. No heart beat, not nothing. "She lost too much blood. I'm sorry sir."
I stumbled back almost falling but the doctor helped me back up.
"Mr. Luke, it's going to be alright." I stared at him for a long time before pushing our- my son into his arms.
My body became numb and I felt nothing after that. The day was a blur and all I remember is the crying of my children and I knew I was alone now.
__________
"Jay Blue wasn't someone you'd find in the normal department. You'd catch her in her own world or speaking to the animals. That's what attracted me to her I guess. She was so different and beautiful that it was amazing. I don't think Jay Blue died giving birth. She died for a living person, our son Andrew. She died for another one and I love her even more. She may not be here with us all the time like she used to be, but she's always in our hearts. She built herself in us all, thank you." I walked away from the podium walking back to the seat of the church. It was cold and silent at her funeral. The air was crisp as people would say things to me.
The lads were beside me the whole time, Michael crying which made me smile a little. He wasn't one to always cry.
