(Hint: When the speech marks are bold it's when the characters are speaking English, if they are normal it means that they're speaking Korean.)
BEEP~ BEEP~ BEEP~
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. I groaned a bit as I rich for it turning the dreadful beeping noise off. I then quickly went to shower. After I got dressed and dried my hair I ran downstairs and took a banana and rushed out the door. I can't afford to even be late by a minute. I have to keep my number one position at school.
After about a 20 minute walk I've reached my school. As I walked through the gate the atmosphere felt different. There was more gossip than usual. Of cause like all schools there was gossip every day, but today it was much louder than usual.
I chose to ignore it and went to class. I opened my note book and looked at my notes from last Friday. About ten minutes later students started to gather in the class and then the teacher came in. Behind him followed a western blond boy. All of the girls started to cheer and fangirl at the sight of him. What is so special about him; he's just another person joining the class. This is going to make my school life that much more crowded, and with these girls. Much louder. Making it even harder to concentrate on the studies.
"Quiet everyone." The teacher said. "This is Joshua Smith. He came here from Britain due to personal circumstances. Joshua doesn't know Korean well so please take good care of him." He paused and looked at me directly. "Min Jaehyo-ah would you be kind enough to take care of Joshua Smith since your English is at the highest level in the class."
I sighed a little. This was bound to happen. "Yes Sir. I'll do my best." I forced a smile. This for sure is going to affect my studies. Why me!? Now I also have to play translator as well.
"Sir, can I please do it?" A girl jumped up enthusiastically. I didn't bother learning the names of my classmates. They never even talk to me anyway and I don't intend on making conversations with them either.
"Sowoo-ah, you're already behind in maths so I think giving you extra responsibilities would drop your maths even further." The class laughed. "Now, Joshua, would you like to take a sit next to Jaehyo at the back." The teacher spoke English to the boy. The boy did as told.
"Annyeonk, I'm Joshua, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise. By the way it's annyeong not annyeonk. Just speak English." I gave him a bit of a cold look and continued rereading my notes. Why does this happen to me, now I'm stuck babysitting and translating.
After the end of first period I decided to walk up to the teacher. "Excuse me sir, but why can't the school hire a professional translator for, eh, Joshua? I mean, If I continue to look after him I'm afraid that my grades could drop."
"For the time being we don't have the budget to afford a translator. Your grades are perfect so far, so I wouldn't worry about it for now. But if your grades were to drop we would have to consider of hiring someone. For now just bear with it." The teacher gave me a smile.
I just nodded a little with disappointment. "I understand."
"Jaehyo is something wrong?" Joshua asked as I walked to my seat.
"To be honest." I paused "Up until now my life was alright. I came to school, study and go back home. No human interaction or people to distract me. Now. I have to take care of you. My grades could suffer the consequences because of that."
There was silence for a long moment. "I'm sorry to hear that." His expression seemed upset. Maybe I was a little too harsh. " But if I'm understanding correctly, are you saying you never had any friends in school? You must be so lonely." he paused. "I get it. Studying is important, but social life is also important." He paused looking like he's deep in thought. After a moment he spoke. "I'll teach you how to combine the two." He gave me what seemed like a mischievous smile.
"And what is that meant to mean? I'm the one teaching you. Well, sort of." This guy was just making me confused. Plus, I don't think I can trust that expression.
"Let's be friends. Come on." He gave me a warm smile as he stuck his hand out.
"So now. Not only I have to teach you Korean, play translator but also be friends with you?" I gave him a cold look. "Alright. But if after a week my grades start to decrease even one percent I'm calling off the deal. Also being friends with me, you basically are putting yourself in a very difficult situation. I mean people in this school call me Ice Queen for a reason, I doubt you'll be able to be friends with me for too long either way."
"Lets have a bet. As soon as I would lose the hope of you warming up to me as a friend I'll call it quits and leave you alone. Which I highly doubt. However, if I was to win which would be you start to respect me as a friend we'll take it a step further and date." He gave me a mischievous smile.
"W-what?! D-date! Aish! This guy is crazy!" I didn't know what to think or do.
"What, are you nervous that you're going to lose."
"Are you some sort of playboy pervert? So far I've never said I would agree to such stupid bet?"
"Aww. Come one, it'll be fun. Like I said; friends are important in life. If you think about it I'll be teaching you a very important life skill. So come on."
This guy suddenly changed into a jerk. I will never lose to him. That playboy pervert. "The class is starting again in a minute so for now just drop the subject." This guy is making my blood boil.
