I ran to my 2017, 3500 Dodge Ram and got in the drivers side, making sure to close the door quietly. The fears making the adrenaline run through my veins as I shoved the key into the ignition and turned it, willing the engine to roar to life. A couple seconds later, it turned over and I quickly put it in drive and went to hook up my trailer.

I only had a couple minutes before he would wake up and realize I was gone.

It was dark, the only light that shone in the night sky was the full moon, allowing me to see as I hooked the trailer to my truck. Once I hooked them together, I hopped back into the drivers side and put it in drive, pulling both the trailer and the truck forward. I swung in front of the barn and made a U turn to back the trailer close to the barn doors.

Throwing the large diesel in park, I quickly got out and ran towards the tack room to get a royal blue halter and a black and blue lead rope. Once it was in my hand, I ran to the last stall that withheld my beautiful dapple grey paint quarter horse.

"Hey, handsome." I whispered to him as I unlatched his stalls door and slid it open.

He picked up his head and pricked his ears forward, watching me approach him. I looked in his eyes and saw the curiosity within them.

"It's okay, boy." I soothed as I slipped the halter over his head and clipped it into place. "It's time to go."

Once he was out of his stall, I clicked my tongue and jogged him to the trailer, to get out quicker. The only thing you could hear was the sound of the diesel engine, and my pointed toe Justins and Nickel's hoofbeats against the wooden floor of the barn.

I quickly tied the lead rope to the side of the trailer so I could put the door down. Once it was down, I untied the lead rope and led Nickel inside, tying him on one of the hooks so he's not walking around the trailer when we're going down the road.

I lifted the door and latched it shut, going to the side to open the window so he could have some air.

I looked back at the barn and wiped my forehead with my forearm. Even at night, the Texas weather was still very warm.

Knowing that I didn't need anything else in the barn or the tack room, I hopped in the driver's seat and threw the truck in drive; never looking back as I drove down the long dirt road.

I was finally out of there; but I knew this wasn't over.
