When I went to work that morning, I nearly tripped over a bunch of red roses laid down In front of the door, a price of card strung to one with string.

I picked it up and read the note:

Emma,

Good morning, gorgeous.
I have meetings all day for work, so I won't be able to see you after you finish work.
I'm sorry, I will call you after my last meeting.

I love you

Love,
Dan

I pulled out my phone and opened the messages app.

Emma🎨: ❤️

Danhowell🌚: guessing you found it

Emma🎨: ❤️❤️❤️

Danhowell🌚:I'm sorry about that, meetings and shit

Emma🎨: don't be sorry, you have a job!

Emma🎨: I'm surprised that you went with the flowers option over a text tho

Danhowell🌚: roses seemed more romantic

Emma🎨: you are so sweet

Danhowell🌚: I have to go to my first meeting, I love you

Emma🎨: love you too 😘

Work was boring as usual. I couldn't text dan, and phil didn't show up to keep me company.

I mostly read my book, and day dreamed, in between people coming in to see the art, or buying anything.

I was grateful for the silence though, it let me time to think.

How did I end up here, in this crazy life, with dan.

Dan coming back was a miracle in itself. I'm in London, of all places, miles and miles and hundreds of miles away from home, and I'm doing fine. I have the bestest friend anyone could ever hope for, I have my own apartment, and I haven't gone broke, or died yet, so I'm going alright.

My happy thoughts were interrupted by my phone ringing.

Maybe dan finished his meetings early?

But I didn't recognise the number.

I answered.

"Hello, Emma speaking"

"Hello, this is the princess grace hospital, are you Emma?"
