*Few Weeks Later*
"Isn't the Block Party coming up?"
Mom said to me awhile flipping some pancakes. I guess they can be alright, only if Mom were to cook them without setting the house on fire. My response to her question lingers back for awhile, and all in all I am trying to come up with an answer. But as I debate over each choice, I found myself settling on one answer. The truth.
"Yes."
"Are you going to go with Sarah?"
"No."
The remark itself causes my mom to widen her eyes a bit, sure Sarah and I fought like any other people. But it was only over the dumb things, control of the TV remote and etc... It was never over anything important, until now...
"Are you guys okay?"
"Yes."
I replied back, gritting my teeth; as the lie came out of my mouth. My mom then bobs her head in response, deciding not to go any further with the topic. That's actually one of the few things I could appreciate about her, she isn't one of those parents who wants to go further into the subject, knowing in the end that the kid and themselves could end up in an argument.
"Thank you."
"No problem."
After that, my mom then starts to babble on about her dentist appointment yesterday. You see, my mom adored the dentist, her regular dentist Ms. Thompson would end up gossiping as if there was no tomorrow.
And did I forget to mention that she was also the "team leader" of the Neighbor Hood Watch in Sarah's neighborhood?
It's bad enough I saw her with my mother. But once in awhile, I would see her when I visited Sarah, her eyes glaring at me every time.
It was annoying me.
"Guess what? Ms. Thompson is getting married!"
This is the only thing that registers in my mind, otherwise I wouldn't have almost choked on my burnt pancakes.
Ms. Thompson? Married? The old hag couldn't even attract a disease, let alone a man. So my initial reaction was to laugh. But this causes my mom to frown, causing her to stop talking and to hit me on the shoulder.
"You should have more respect for Ms. Thompson, she gave you clean teeth for a discount."
Sometimes I would wonder why my Mom liked Ms. Thompson!. Was it for the discounts?
No.
She genuinely liked her. Even though they were the polar opposites. My mom being reserved, observant, still, along with a golden tongue that you can't help but be silenced by; once a snark remark was out of my mom's mouth, there was no going back...
Ms. Thompson in the other hand was loud, hostile, sensitive, emotional, blunt, she was like a teenage girl who never grew up.
Just like Sarah and I...
"Mom, she called me your "baggage" and has personally made my gums bleed for the next century."
"You need to stop with this hatred towards Ms. Thompson, it's quite unhealthy."
Mom says as she continues to argue, awhile plating me with more rock, hard, coal colored pancakes.
"But it's true! I-"
"No buts, just eat."
"... yes m'am."
There was no winning with my mom.
*BLOCK PARTY*
In the end, I had decided to go. For the past week I have been lying with myself, constantly thinking that Sarah and I were in an argument. But that wasn't true...
Recently she has FINALLY contacted me, rambling on and on about how she caught the flu in London, and that she was sorry that she missed my birthday, explaining that she just starting to recover.
I guess it was understandable, but really, I wish she could have just contacted me, therefore, this lack of contact has lead my twisted mind into thinking that we were in a fight, thus giving me an excuse to avoid her.
But I couldn't anymore, Sarah deserved to know the truth.
---------------------------------------------
The moment I had arrived at the Block Party, I could see that it was a big turn up. More people showed up, and it was great. Not only you can get free food (which is always nice) but you got to know one another. Plus, you got to learn about different cultures and how meals are different in each homes.
I loved it.
My neighborhood, which was right next door didn't host any events. They felt that it was to costly, and quite frankly no one cared. But in Sarah's neighborhood, all people can do was celebrate.
"Sarah!"
Let me tell you something, yelling in a big talkative crowd won't do much.
Conversation after conversation, and as each conversation would began, they would join together as if they were a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, resulting into a louder noise, making it harder and harder for anyone to hear my constant yelling.
But in that moment, I swear that throughout the whole crowd, I saw her.
Beautiful and still-like, with a posture that was a bit unbalanced. All I could see was the figure's back, but I knew it was her. It was Sarah.
I began to ran towards her as if it was a cliche movie, the only difference was that she wasn't running towards me. What should I do? Hug her from behind and pull her into a kiss? Hug her, leap her into the air then kiss? A million ideas began to run through my mind and I didn't know that it was possible to think that much in a few seconds.
But that all came crashing down as soon as I saw him.
The beautiful still-like figure was laughing at something that he had said, causing her to lean forward and to hold onto her stomach. The boy was happy, his eyes gleaming, full with pride, knowing that he made the beautiful girl laugh.
But then he stopped, and finally his eyes registered on mine. I was conflicted with my emotions, I wasn't necessary happy to see him but... No that's a lie, I am not conflicted.
Only one emotion seems to be clear.
Hatred.
"Leo..."
I don't know what came over me, but I swear, I felt time stop as my fist came crashing towards Little Al's face.
(Okay, I felt like this chapter was poorly written so I will explain some stuff... Leo has "pretended" that Sarah and him were in a fight because in his mind, that gave him an excuse to not see her. Although he couldn't even come over if he tried... But finally, Sarah was feeling better and has contacted Leo, telling him to meet her in the Block party. Keep in mind that they haven't seen each other in AWHILE and it has been a few weeks since "Sarah came back from London." So when Leo comes to the Block party, he sees Sarah but then once he sees Little Al, he punches him. The reason why Leo hates Little Al because his family left when Leo's dad died, Little Al's dad was the last living connection to Leo's dad, so in Leo's POV he was hurt. He was hurt that they left right after. Which I will try to explain more in the upcoming chapters, anyway thanks for reading! If you have any questions on what is going on so far, please let me know! I will try to answer them, my writing has been quite terrible lately and I am gonna do a major edit this weekend. ((if i can :O)) anyway, thanks again!)
