Lana stared at her phone, her finger hovering over the notification.
Ryan Ashford sent you a friend request.
Shannon leaned over her shoulder, practically vibrating with excitement. "What are you waiting for? Accept it already!"
"I don't know," Lana muttered, biting her lip. "It feels... weird. Like, why would he even send this?"
"Uh, maybe because he finds you interesting? Or, you know, he's secretly in love with you," Shannon teased, nudging her playfully.
Lana rolled her eyes. "More like it was an accident. You were there, remember?"
"Whatever," Shannon said, waving her hand dismissively. "Just accept it. What's the worst that could happen?"
With a resigned sigh, Lana tapped the "Accept" button. Almost immediately, a message popped up.
Ryan: Hey, thanks for adding me back.
Lana blinked at the screen. She hadn't expected him to message her so quickly.
"What's it say?" Shannon asked eagerly.
"Just... thanking me for adding him back," Lana replied, her voice uncertain.
"See? Totally normal. Now say something!"
Lana hesitated for a moment before typing.
Lana: No problem. Hope it wasn't a mistake, haha.
The response came faster than she anticipated.
Ryan: It wasn't. Actually, I wanted to ask—are you free this weekend?
Her heart skipped a beat as she read the message.
Lana: Depends. Why?
Ryan: There's a party at my place. Thought you might want to come. It's nothing too formal—just some friends hanging out.
Shannon gasped audibly. "No way. He invited you to a party? At his house?"
"Apparently," Lana said, still staring at the screen.
"Say yes! Say yes right now!" Shannon exclaimed, nearly grabbing the phone out of Lana's hand.
Lana hesitated, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. She didn't exactly feel comfortable at the idea of mingling with Weston's elite crowd, but something about the invitation intrigued her.
Lana: Sure. I guess I can come.
Ryan's reply was almost immediate.
Ryan: Great. I'll send you the details.
The Invitation Spreads
By the next day, word of Lana's invitation had spread like wildfire. Weston's student body had a knack for gossip, and the news that Ryan Ashford had personally invited the scholarship girl to one of his exclusive parties was enough to set tongues wagging.
"Everyone's talking about it," Shannon said as they walked to class. "You know, you're officially a big deal now."
Lana groaned. "That's exactly what I didn't want."
"Relax," Shannon said with a grin. "It's just a party. What's the worst that could happen?"
The Mansion
When Saturday evening arrived, Lana felt like she was stepping into a fairy tale—and not the kind with friendly woodland creatures.
Ryan's family mansion was a sprawling estate on the outskirts of town, complete with manicured gardens, marble fountains, and valet parking. The interior was even more extravagant: crystal chandeliers, velvet drapes, and walls lined with priceless artwork.
