A/N: Y'all want a WonderTrev texting story? Happy New Year! :) Sorry for the short chapter!
Steve scanned his girlfriend, the amusement thick in his eyes. "You're not lying," He finally concluded, popping a tomato in his mouth.
"That looks like a good salad."
Steve pulled away, his eyes widening. "No, no, no. This is huge. You've never had pizza before!"
"It's greasy and slimey and eck," Diana said with a shake of her head.
She took a bite of the breadstick. Steve was droning on and on over this. It was as if every five minutes he had to repeat the same silly speech.
"I know! 'Pizza is not all that you make it out to be. Why else would there be a million pizza chains out there? You've got to try it.'"
"That's exactly what I was going to say! You're missing out!"
"I'm missing out on cheese piled on top of soggy bread. I'd consider myself lucky."
Diana sighed, leaning back in her chair.. "Besides, my pasta is pretty good." She sipped her sprite, a small smile spreading on her lips.
"You're right, you're right. I should just let it go."
"Great. See? We solved this without you shoving a pizza down my throat," Diana joked, slightly nudging him.
"I couldn't agree more. I think I'd rather shove a breadstick down. It'd digest quicker."
Without warning, he reached over and grabbed the basket full of bread. "I challenge you to a fight. Your condiments, against my bread."
"Challenge accepted."
She rolled her eyes with a smirk. "If I win, I don't have to try pizza. Ever. If you do, I'll eat two slices. In five minutes."
Steve nodded his head as he lined up each stick. They went by height, though it didn't look very pleasing, considering bites had been taken out of each one.
"Who was picking at this?"
"Don't blame me, blame the birds." To prove her point, Diana threw a piece out towards the animals. "Just watch them. They eat like pigs."
"They eat like birds," He chuckled, clearing room off the table. "If your dips can cover at least one third of three breadsticks in a minute, you win. If I can stuff five of these in my mouth...And keep them in there for two minutes, I win."
Diana tried to act like things made sense to her. Her end of the bargain was simple, as for Steve's? The girl was clueless.
She grabbed three breadsticks. "I'll go first, okay?"
"Okay. I'll be counting. And it has to cover one third, like a painting."
She nodded, already placing the end of each stick in the pasta sauce.
This had to be simple enough. Just paint one third of each stick.
That was easier said than done. Steve told her he wanted it to be like a painting, with no uncovered spots.
She let the baked food soak down. Diana squeezed so hard she wouldn't be surprised if the thing popped open at any second.
"Come on," Steve urged. It was nice. How those ocean eyes were so determined and concentrated. He was rooting for her, despite the fact that they were enemies.
She could feel her grip loosen, the bread falling onto a napkin. One down, two to go.
The pressure was real now. Diana knew it'd taken her at least thirty seconds for that first one, she didn't have that kind of time any longer.
The two remaining sticks grinded against each other in her attempt to clean them off at the same time. She breathed in the scent of the sauce deeply. Not that appealing, but still tasty.
Diana licked her lips. The once golden bread now looked a dull red, and one stick was left. It had just barely gotten covered.
She would have to quicken her pace. This little method wouldn't cut it.
"The pizza smells amazing," Steve causally mumbled.
"Maybe so...Aw!" Diana yelled as her two completed sticks rolled off the table.
They fell to the ground, and sure enough, birds were already pecking at the food.
"Well that was a complete failure. Guess we have to see if you win?"
Steve shook his head, gently pushing his pizza towards her. "Okay, you lucked out this time. You've only got to eat slice."
"Lucked out? I still have to eat one. This is the worst punishment you've given me. And we both know you didn't do your end of the challenge."
"Punishment? Diana, did you think ice cream looked nice when you first saw it? Now it's your favorite food! And we both know I'd crush you without even trying."
He did have a fair point. The only thing she'd done with Steve was try new things!
She shut her eyes closed, her teeth slowly connecting with the food.
Oh god.
She had been wrong.
So, so, wrong.
Greasy and slimey and eck? What was she thinking? The thing was not slimey.
Melted cheese had never tasted so good. The way it blended with the pepperoni was fantastic. Not only that, but the way it felt on her tongue? She dare say it felt better than Steve's kisses.
Okay, that was a stretch. Yet you couldn't deny that the food was good.
The noise she made must've implied that Diana was on heaven, because Steve howled with laughter.
"Do you see yourself?! You're the same woman that said pizza was cheese piled on soggy bread!" He exclaimed, doubling over from all the laughter.
"Well...Maybe I was wrong."
"Maybe?!" Steve repeated, still gasping for breath. "This is why I love you, Diana!"
"Why? What'd I do?"
Steve regained his composure, but the smile was still there. "You're you. That's all."
Diana broke off a good chunk of her pizza and handed it to Steve. "There."
"And that, too. You give me your pizza, exactly why I love you."
