Modern day. In this fluff Diana already knows everything about Christmas.
Diana shook her head in defeat. She had suggested on just flying up to place the Christmas lights out, but Steve insisted on doing it himself.
"Fine!" She yelled, tilting her head upwards. "But once you fall it's not my job to catch you!" A hint of playfulness was behind Diana's words.
Steve brushed this off, climbing the uneven steps of the ladder. "I'll be okay. I've done this a million times."
Unsure, Diana moved a little closer to Steve. "I'm sure you'll be fine..." She was uncertain, a slight edge to her voice. "Just get it done quickly."
He nodded, almost slipping from one of the rungs.
Diana sighed in frustration, her eyes hardening on Steve. "Alright, that's it big boy. Let me take you down," she began to walk over to the ladder.
"Diana. You can kill Ares, I can hang Christmas lights. We all have our strengths."
Diana unconsciously bit down on her nails. She was nervous for Steve. She was scared. Worried. Uncertain.
"Steve please," Diana was begging now.
Steve carefully took one foot and arm off the ladder. He dangled from the top rung with just half of his body.
Diana suppressed a scream, knowing that would startle him and cause him to fall. She narrowed her eyes, sticking out her tongue for a second.
"Very funny," She stiffened, her muscles tensing up.
Steve closed his eyes, still dangling.
Diana's breaths were unsteady. She began to shake against her will.
"Steve please--You're the only man that makes me feel safe. I don't want you getting hurt," Her voice cracks, her body shaking even harder.
Steve took one last swing, then placed his whole body back on the ladder. "I appreciate that you care." He took the brightly colored lights that were hanging from his belt. "But a man can manage these things better than a great handful of women. You have nothing to fear."
Skeptical, Diana hovered over the ground. "And I can manage these things better than a great handful of men," She shot back.
Steve almost lost his footing, but managed to get a hold of it. He carefully turned around to see Diana. "Alright maybe we don't need lights this year!" He yelled out, getting ready to go down.
Diana sneered. She looked meaner than she had intended. "Sorry."
Steve took another step down and before he knew it was back on the ground.
Diana let out a little 'woop'. She also stopped hovering and got down on the ground. "Christmas tree!" She said happily, throwing her hands in the air.
Steve set the lights over his shoulders. "Alright, I'll race you there."
The couple both knew Diana would win by a mile, but they still did it for the fun of it.
Bursting open the door, she moved her eyes around. "There!" She pointed, rushing over to the evening room.
Steve came running behind her, swinging her in his arms. He pecked a small kiss on her cheek. "Diana," he repeated her name delicately. It was just above a whisper, his voice ringing through her ears. "Christmas is the the best time of year." He pecked another kiss, then set her down.
Diana's heart skipped a beat as he set her down. She sat on the thin blanket placed on the ground for a while.
Steve stared at her, looking like a lovestuck dummy. He smiled proudly, running his strong fingers along the bench he sat on. "Well, are we going to decorate this tree or not?"
Diana jumped up, her own hair whipping herself in the face. The oversized Christmas sweater lied loosely around her strong frame. Walking around the room, she stopped at the wooden end table.
She poked at the huge christmas hat. Picking it up with one finger, she threw it at Steve.
Steve twirled the fabric around for a while. He pushed pack his hair, then covered it up with the hat.
Diana speedily walked around the small tree. "Why can't we have a big tree?" She said, her pout growing bigger.
Steve crossed his arms, retaliating with an even bigger pout. "Because I wouldn't waste money on a tree. I wasted it on better ornaments." He stuck his thumb in his mouth, making his voice as kid like as he could.
Diana laughed. A real laugh. Not the ones she use to force out whenever her mother mad a bad joke. She often did that with Steve. She laughed.
Steve adjusted his hat. "Now go on, I have a present for you. Under the tree. It's just for you."
Surprised, Diana grabbed the bag eagerly. "Presents?" She asked, shocked.
"Well yeah. That's part of the Christmas tradition. We couldn't do it last year because you wanted to spend the whole day playing in snow. And I thought my love for you would be enough."
Diana threw back her head in laughter. "Oh Steve your love is the best gift anyone could ever afford!" She smiled brightly. "Certaintly better than whatever's in this box. Of course that doesn't mean whatever you got this time is bad."
"Well, go on. Open it."
Diana stopped for a second. "Steve," she whispered. "Christmas Eve on Friday. I...I don't know. It just seemed like a good sign..." Diana shrugged, slipping off the tissue paper from the bag. She gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
"Do you like it?" Steve asked, leaning in closer to her.
"Oh I love it!" She smiled wider. "You're the best boyfriend in the world!" That was the first time Diana had ever referred to him as 'boyfriend.'
"You really like it?"
"Yeah!" Diana carefully grabbed it, her hands curling around the small ball. "You...How did you do this?"
"I got it custom made. I'm so glad you like it, I was so worried."
Diana gently shook the ball. Snow flew down, the small Wonder Woman figure looked stunning. Diana knew she must've been imagining it, but she thought she could hear a slight melody coming from the ball. The beautiful ball.
Diana chewed on her lips, making a slight popping sound.
"What do you want?"
"I'm sorry what?" Steve asked, sputtering his hot chocolat out of his mouth. The hot chocolate made a sizzling noise as it landed on the carpet.
"Well what do you want from me? I can give you anything you want for Christmas, I guess."
Steve leaned in so close she's could smell the chocolate off his breath. "Anything?" He whispered for conformation.
"Mhm," She said with a nod. "Anything you'd like. Call me Santa. Or something. I dunno."
The words were so light Diana could barely hear them. But she knew he had said it. She knew she wasn't hearing him incorrectly.
"I want to go to your island."
