A/N: I SAW JUSTICE LEAGUE AND BATMAN JUST—HE WAS SO COCKY WHEN HE WENT ALL LIKE, "DID STEVE TREVOR TELL YOU THAT?" AND NOOO BATMAN YOU JUST CROSSED THE LINE
Steve struggled to hold two overly large mugs in his hands.
Diana giggled at the sight of her boyfriend in such a mess. His hair wasn't combed and he was still clearly tired from the night before. It had been his idea to go to the local cafe, despite the fact he needed a couple more hours of snooze.
Setting down the cup in front of Diana, he groaned.
"Diana how are you so awake? We didn't go to bed until after one in the morning," Steve said with a yawn.
"Yes but unlike you my body can handle that," Reaching out for him she ran her fingers through his hair. "We could've easily made coffee at home."
"I ran out of hot chocolate mix. And I wanted you to taste hot chocolate." His voice was flat and lacked the emotion Diana wanted it to have, but those ocean eyes made up for it. He danced with his eyes.
"Hot chocolate?" She peered into the steaming cup. "Is this like chocolate ice cream but melted? It certainly doesn't look too good. It smells overly sweet too."
"Better than ice cream," To prove his point he gulped down his cup. He banged his mug against the table, a smile masking his fatigue. "See? It's great."
Still not convinced, Diana raised an eyebrow. "Okay...Sure, I bet it taste amazing..."
Steve leaned in closer. "That's the same exact thing you said about ice cream and you ended up loving it."
A blush creeping along her face, Diana grabbed the cup. It was hot.
"I like ice cream because it's cold. This is hot." She pushed the cup to Steve. "You have it, I don't need it."
"Are you certain about that?" He prodded, pushing the cup back to her. "Without a shadow of a doubt you know this is too hot for your taste." He leaned so close she could smell the chocolate on his breath.
She nodded, unsure of why he cared so much. "Yes, I am positive."
Steve edged the mug away from the couple. "Diana Prince, Princess of Themyscira, do you mind?"
Without waiting for any possible answer he smashed his lips against hers.
Diana's heart stopped. After so long. After dreaming of this moment. After months he had finally kissed her. He had kissed her. Kissed her. Diana. He had brushed his lips against hers and he was kissing her.
Still in shock, she nearly forgot to pucker her lips back.
It was such a light kiss--Such a light and basic act of happiness. He was happy for her. He was happy about being with her. He cared. He truly cared for her and he'd finally proven it. He had finally did it.
It ended all too soon.
Steve was smiling like a child, his breaths coming out short and hard. "Will you drink it now?" He asked between breaths.
"Wha--?"
"After you've tasted the chocolate from me, do you like it?" His eyes lit up like a thousand of fireworks.
"Ye--yes," She whispered, the blush from before finding it's way back onto her face. "I think I enjoy it very much," She tucked her hair behind her ear, her eyes never leaving from the cup.
"Great," He sensed the tension overcoming the table. "That's amazing."
"Diana," He began. His hands curled around the mug. "I didn't just kiss you because of the drink...I mean. I've been waiting to do it for so long. I'm sorry...I just thought it would be a good opportunity..."
Diana looked up at him. She smirked. "Oh really?" She teased, tugging her mug from his hands. "I find that hard to believe."
Steve chuckled, pulling the drink back towards himself. "Yes really."
"Without a shadow of a doubt you're positive?" She mocked the voice he had used minutes before.
"Without a trace of any possible shadow of a doubt, I kissed you out of love."
Diana's playful mood flew away. It was now replaced with a jumble of mixed feelings.
"You love me?" She squeaked.
Sure, Diana had loved her mother and all her sisters, but that was in a different way. Her chest didn't bubble and she didn't feel like she'd melt in a puddle of love every time they passed by. She was just grateful for them being there for her. She could act normal around them.
And yeah, Etta had forced Diana to watch thousands of crappy romance movies, but she could never connect with the character. She could never think what they were thinking. She could never act how they acted. Diana thought they were just downright crazy. Now she realized she was so blind to think they were just an actor. Just playing a part. They had true feelings.
"Of course. I've loved you since day one. I thought I made it obvious."
Diana couldn't respond. This was the first time she felt loved. She was loved.
"Do you love me?" Steve asked softly, his lips touching the mug.
Those same lips had touched her moments before. They had felt her lips. They had shown their love.
"I--" Diana's voice cracked. She managed a weary smile. "Yes. Steve. I do."
She had never loved a man. Confirming her feelings for him made her ashamed. She wasn't suppose to love a man. Men ruined lives.
Steve wouldn't ruin lives. Steve was a good man.
The mug dropped to the table. A small crack ripped through the once perfectly crafted cup.
"I'm sorry," Diana whispered. "I didn't know love was so difficult."
Steve laughed happily. "It is difficult. But if you love someone enough, you can get through it. We can get through it."
Hope. Hope filled Diana's eyes. It filled her whole body.
Hope wasn't something Amazon's held on to. Hope was so deceiving.
"Can we though? Can we fight off all the struggles that come along with this?"
"Of course." Steve gripped his gloved hand into hers. "We can. I love you to death and I can do it. Can you?"
"Yes," Diana squeezed her hand in his. "I can. I've never loved anyone like this, you should be proud."
Her natural smile came back. The way she felt, it was unexplainable.
It was like a big fluffy marshmallow had consumed her heart.
It felt good.
Happy.
Lovely.
