"I think it's time you finally listen to real music. Not something about how a monster lives in a blue world, although that is a good song," Steve stated as he typed some words into his computer. "What do you think sounds nice? Pop, Rock, Blues, Hip-Hop, Motown?"
Diana shook her head in utter confusion. "Pop? What does that even stand for? 'People Of Passion?'"
Without answering he punched some more keys. "Alright, we'll start with pop. Bruno Mars seems like a good pick, what do you think of him?"
"Nothing," Diana replied with a shrug. "I don't know a thing about him." She wrapped his arms around Steve, peeking at the screen from behind his shoulder.
"I know," Steve finally swung his chair around to meet her eyes. Laughing, he leaned back in the swivel chair. "But when you hear that name, what comes to mind? Does it make you want to hear him?"
"Not as much as it makes me want to hear you."
She wasn't trying to flatter Steve, that wasn't how their relationship worked, it wasn't playful comments all day. She only said it to avoid the question. Nothing but a blank whiteness came to mind when she heard his name.
"What did you think when you saw me?"
"I thought lots of things." Diana snuck her fingers into the chocolate covered popcorn. "Like how this was a door of different worlds. There was so much I saw in your eyes. So many possibilities."
Steve beamed with pride. Turning back to his computer, he clicked the small 'Enter' key. "Okay, look at him. What do you see now?"
"I see," Diana squinted, mocking her interest.
Letting out a laugh over how silly this must have seemed, she leaned deeper into Steve. "I see someone. A boy. He looks innocent but at the same time so deep. No, I take it back. He doesn't look deep. Not at all. It seems like he's telling you to listen. Except he's not ordering you to...I have no idea."
Shrugging her shoulders, clicking the 'Videos' tab.
"Old Bruno or new Bruno?" Steve asked.
"Old," She said strictly. "People grow up too fast and things change too quickly. I want to see the old him."
"Do I change too quickly?" Steve wiggled his eyebrows, even though Diana couldn't see this small gesture.
"You, Steve Trevor, are truly something different." She coaxed her head to the side. "My feelings for you changed too quickly. From caring, to hatred, to love."
"If you ever leave me baby, leave some morphine at my door..."
Diana didn't frown. She didn't straighten up. She simply relaxed further into her boyfriend. The voice wasn't extraordinary, only moderate, but it was still calming.
Music itself was a whole other story. Words flew out of his mouth to a familiar beat. It felt as if she had heard it before, despite never even knowing who Bruno Mars was until a minute ago. It made her forget everything. Every little thing. The music filled her head and that was all she could think of.
"Cause it would take a whole lot medication to realize what we use to have, we don't have it anymore."
"Alright, I'm over it. Sweet and calming, but when would you listen to it? When you knitted while watching the Golden Girls? Scratch that, listening to music and watching TV isn't too bright of an idea."
Chuckling, he paused the video.
Rubbing Diana's back, Steve sighed. "Okay, what do you want? Something you can dance to? A cheap party song by the Chainsmokers? Because I'm sorry, but if that's the case, we'll have to end things."
Smirking, Diana brought the mouse into her own hands. "Let me find something this time, okay? Tell me the first two words that come to your mind and I'll find a song."
"Not fair!" Steve playfully whined. "I'm the one helping you, have you forgotten that?"
Diana typed 'Not Fair'. Her hands slowly eased against the buttons. They clicked, each having it's own unique sound.
When Steve explained basic human things to her, it sent her heart fluttering. Like she'd been thrown over the Empire State Building and her heart was soaring through the sky.
"Will you ever take me to see the Empire State Building?" Diana suddenly asked. Steve always showed her thick books filled to the brim with pages of all different types of cultures and feels. He was giddy when he flipped the paper, telling her that one day he would ride a plane around all fifty states.
Except for New York. He brushed this off, claiming that he'd already been there a million times.
"If that's what you want, I don't see why not. Empire State of Mind baby," He squeezed her hand lightly.
The song ended their conversation. Music filled their ears.
Steve laughed at the lyrics, and even if Diana didn't know what was so funny, she giggled along too.
He rubbed his nose against hers for a second. "You won't leave me over that, will you?" He asked, pointing at the computer.
"Over what?"
"Over not being good at sex," He breathed, a silly look of horror on his face.
Diana yelped. Slapping his leg, she edged away. "Oh Steve!" She gasped, somehow smiling through her shock. "What is that suppose to mean!"
Steve wrapped his arms around her, showering her cheeks with small kisses.
"It means I don't pleasure you enough," He teased, tickling her stomach.
Diana howled in joy. "You give me more than enough pleasure!" She screamed over her laughs. "Much more than sleeping can offer!"
"That's good to know," He only began to tickle harder. "Because I'm pretty sure your love is strong. As for bed...Well..."
"Oh shut up!"
"I mean, you don't really touch me," Steve smiled as he suppressed a laugh of his own. "You don't make me feel good, get what I'm saying." It was a question, of course, but he made it sound like a statement.
With any other person this conversation would be awkward. Far beyond awkward. Their would be tension and strained smiles through the weirdness of their talk.
That didn't happen with Steve.
"Really?" Diana pouted, playing along with this game. "Because, I really do love you." Cupping his face in her hands, she smacked her nose into his.
They're eyes were only inches from each other. Their breathing matched up, both equally as fast from the enjoyment they were experiencing.
"I love you," Diana pulled their faces closer. Carefully, she pressed her lips against his in a timid way. A way that only Steve would understand.
He kissed her back, then smiled as their faces drifted apart.
"Wow Timid Timmy, if you're this shy with kissing, then you really must be no good at sex."
They weren't only smiling at his silly joke, but at how crazy things must seem to an outsider. How this must have been Diana's five hundredth kiss with him but she still made it out to be her first. How he teased her for not getting in bed with him, and she could still smile at that. Or perhaps how the song was still blasting out words.
Maybe just because of how much comfort and love they felt.
