Tessa drifted in and out of consciousness while dreaming about her life.
First, she was in grade 3, singing in a group with her class and her teacher, Ms. Adams. She was sitting beside her best friend, Colleen, and her other close friend, Jake. They were singing their made up version of twinkle twinkle little star. After the song was finished, it was recess and Jake went out to play with her as Colleen helped out the teacher.
"Hey Tessa, wanna go to the garden to see the rabbits?" Jake asked.
"Sure." Tessa said delightfully.
They went to the back of the school where they had their vegetable garden for class experiments. Jake took Tessa's hand as they walked though the uneven jungle of plants and dirt.
"So, do you like the flowers we planted with the class?" asked Jake trying to start a conversation.
"Yeah," replied Tessa. "but I would prefer daffodils. I like them better than daisies."
Jake laughed and looked beside him.
"Well, look at what we have here." He picked a small daffodil from the garden.
"A daffodil for the lovely lady."
Tessa laughed and took the daffodil.
"Thank you fine gentleman." and she curtsied.
Tessa and Jake just smiled at each other, Jake having the most beautiful eyes and personality. Tessa just adored his dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He was just perfect.
Then her dream shifted. She was at home with her family. Her relatives were over and they were all in a terrible mood. It was the day her grandfather died. Tessa was sitting in her room, on the floor, crying, where nobody could see her. Tessa was 10. She just finished 5th grade and heard that her grandfather had a heart attack. He was at home when it happened and her grandmother called the police, but by the time the ambulance arrived, he was gone. Tessa just looked at his picture, remembering what he had told her before.
"I know you don't want me to cry for you," She said to the picture.
"But I want you back. I can't live without you. Your the only one who understands me other than Jake, and I won't have anyone to talk to about him" She tried to cheer herself up.
'I can't even tell you about how my first kiss would go."
"Well, I think he would have been the most excited about it."
Tessa turned around to see her grandmother standing behind her. She smiled at her.
"And get off the floor. I don't think your grandfather would have wanted you to get a back problem." She gestured for Tessa to sit on the bed with her.
"Don't worry Tessie, your grandfather lived a long happy life and had you in it, so what more could ask for? No one could have stopped his death. God said it was time for him to go back, so he went. He knew it was time." Tessa's grandmother wiped a tear from her face.
"At least he got the chance to jump into the great lake because of you." She said sarcastically annoyed.
Tessa nodded, but then was confused. "Wait, no, that was you."
"Oh, right!" said her grandmother, and they both laughed.
Tessa calmed down. "I just wish I had him back, grandma"
"Don't worry. We'll get through this" Tessa's grandmother said, and they gave each other a hug.
Tessa's dream changed again. This time she was back at school, this time high school. It was the first day of high school and Colleen was signing Tessa and herself up for classes and clubs. Tessa was walking through the hallway with Jake, just exploring the school.
"It's a beautiful school, isn't it?" asked Jake.
"Yeah. At least we have something about the school to be proud of." replied Tessa.
"Where's Colleen?" He asked.
"She's signing me and her up for classes and clubs. So, what are you planning on taking?" asked Tessa starting off the conversation.
"Well, anything that would help me get to being a biologist. So all science, math, english, other language classes, things like that. What about you?" Jake reflected the question back onto her.
"The same thing as you. I want to become a scientist, any scientist, mostly like my father. So the main classes I would take is science, math, english, and others would be health, other language classes, music, some others that I can't think of right now" She said.
"Well since we may be in the same classes, we could study together." He suggested.
"Yeah that would be fun." Tessa agreed happily.
Then, Bella and her 4 friends, Sally, Fiona, Daniella, and Anna, interrupted them.
"Hi Jake." Bella said flirtatiously.
"Oh, hey Isabella. What are you guys up too?" said Jake kindly, like he talks to any other girls.
"I was just wanting to take to you. Can I speak with you in private?" she asked twirling her hair and biting her lip.
"Uh, sure. I'll see in class, Tessa." Jake said and followed Bella and her friends.
When they got back into class, everyone was surrounding Jake and Bella.
"What's happening, Colleen?" asked Tessa.
Colleen turned around with a disappointed look on her face.
"Jake and Bella are dating."
Tessa woke up with tears in her eyes. She quickly wiped her tears but winced at the pain in her body. She was all covered in cuts and bruises. She realized her mom was standing beside her.
Tessa sat up.
"Mom, where am I?"
"You're in the hospital. Do you remember much?" her mom asked.
"About what? What happened?" Tessa was concerned now.
Tessa's mom was very calm for a mother with her child in the hospital.
"Well, someone heard screams and saw Bella and her friends with a snapped rope while looking over a bridge and panicking. He looked over the edge just to see you tied up with a rope and bleeding across the rocks below. He made sure the girls were kept at the bridge and he called the cops. The cops pulled you up and rushed you to the hospital." Tessa's mom took a deep breath and Tessa knew it was hard for her to keep calm.
"You were out for 2 days and they said you will probably only able to wake up only a few times. They say you might not survive..." Now Tessa's mom was crying and Tessa heard enough.
"What happened to Bella and her friends?" Tessa asked.
"Well, they are going to be put in jail for 10 years for what she has done to you over the years." Her mom replied feeling better, but angrier.
"What about Colleen?"
"She heard the news and came straight over and couldn't stop crying. She was kept away from Bella and put in a room here in the hospital where she calmed down. When she fell asleep, her parents took her home."
"And Jake?"
Tessa's mom had a pained smile on her face because she knew how much she liked him.
"He stopped by to see how you were doing yesterday, and now his parents are saying he seems sick and doesn't have an appetite. I think he misses you."
Tessa was relieved to know that he still likes her. Even after 2 years of not talking.
"Dad, Brianna, and other close relatives came by and dropped off some presents." Her mom said.
"And this is all the time I have with you. You're going to sleep again and I'll see you tomorrow. The doctors say that you're body can't stay continuous for long. Good bye, Tessie." Tessa's mom kissed her forehead, and Tessa fell asleep.
