When Tessa woke up, her parents were in the room talking to a man in a suit. She was still hurting and they seem to be arguing about something. Without thinking, Tessa spoke.
"Hey, what's going on? Who is this?"
Everyone looked at her. Her mom was the first one to speak.
"Hi, Tessie. This is Mr. Collins. We're just discussing about what would happen to you."
The man in the suit spoke next.
"Yes. And we would appreciate it if you would give us your opinion, since it is really your choice."
They all looked at each other.
"Your condition is worsening, and it will only be a matter of days before your time is up," Tessa's parents looked hurt at the sound of that.
"And the top secret experiment lab of the U.S.A. is running low on human test subjects. they need someone who is extremely wounded and your father has mentioned it to us. We think we can help you, but we can only do so with your permission. Will you accept this offer?"
Tessa looked at her parents who had mixed feelings about this so she was truely on her own.
"Well, I don't really have much of a choice, and I'm dead anyway." Tessa sighed.
"I accept"
Once Tessa fell back asleep, she was taken in a helicopter to the secret facility. Her family and friends had to stay behind and wait for an update on Tessa. Because the facility was top secret, her parents had to say she would have to be in a special area in the hospital where no one could visit, but would keep her alive until she fully healed.
Tessa woke up on a bed in a small room. She only had scars now and was dressed in a hospital dress, but it wasn't as loose as a normal one. She got up and tried to open the door, which was locked. She looked around to try to find a key, but the first place she looked was in the mattress. She tore it up with whatever strength she had recovered and found the key.
She opened the door to a large room. There was nothing but a chair beside the door she came in from. She took the chair and threw it in front of her just to see that there were invisible lasers in a horizontally stripped pattern that cut chair in 2 pieces. Tessa dived between them, cleanly cutting off a piece of her dress.
When she opened the next door, there were 3 glasses of what appeared to be water. A hologram of a woman appeared. The lady was dressed in a plain blue business dress with her blonde hair cut to her shoulders. She had matching blue accessories and looked beautiful but she barely had an expression on her face except for the faint, partly warming smile on her face.
"Hello, Tessa Foster." said the hologram with a straight face.
"Please choose one of the 3 glasses in front of you to drink. 2 of them contain a deadly acid. Only 1 of them contains water. Choose wisely."
Tessa studied the 3 glasses, unable to find the difference between them. Then Tessa remembered how she completed the other challenges. She looked at the hologram more closer and took a random glass and threw the liquid up at the ceiling. Tessa stepped back as far as she could as the hologram started to flicker and the ceiling spark.
The hologram went out and a door, that blended well into the wall, opened into a large room where many scientists were, waiting for her to enter. They started talking happily when they saw Tessa, like they were relieved she came through and amazed that she actually accomplished the challenges. Tessa was confused. She didn't know who anybody was, where she was, and what they were all happy for.
"Um... What's going on?" Tessa asked unable to stand there while everybody talked about her.
A man in lab coat stepped in front of the crowd. He looked like he was in his mid 40s. He had glasses and a hair style that made him look young. He was handsom but some part of him looked dark and distant, like he spent most of his time alone thinking.
"Hello, Tessa Foster and welcome to section 89. You have successfully completed the first course of your testing." the man said gently as if he were talking to a startled puppy.
"Everybody, continue on with your work. I'll just take Tessa for a little walk." He smiled at Tessa and gestured for her to exit the room through another well blended in door.
