Chapter 2 - This is Our Family

Walking into the district made her heart rate increase. She remembered clearly that she had to ask for a Sargent Hank Voight – at least that was what he said over the phone. As she walked closer and closer to the front desk, she observed everything around her. The officers in uniform, the civilians here for various reasons and then her eyes landed upon the women behind the front main desk. She briskly made her way over to the desk before grabbing the attention of the lady who was sat staring intently at her computer screen.
"How can I help you?" She asked grumpily.
"Oh- I'm here to see Sargent Voight? He called me about a job?" She says, suddenly unsure about everything. Her face relaxed as a smile broke on her lips.
"Oh, right yes! You must be Taylor Quince? Here for the tech job?" She queries.
"Yes" Taylor says, confirming what the lady behind the desk just said.
"I'm Sargent Platt, let me show you up" She says, walking out from behind her desk, ushering Taylor up the stairs. Platt buzzes through the gate before leading Taylor up to the top of the stairs where the Intelligence unit is situated.

The minute they reached the top of the stairs, all eyes were on the pair. Sargent Voight, who had been speaking to a member of his team, turned and faced the pair.
"Voight, this is Taylor Quince" Platt says, before turning and walking back down the stairs after Taylor thanks her for her assistance.
"Taylor welcome. Let me introduce you to the team" Voight says, shaking her hand before turning to face everyone else.
"Taylor this is Detectives Jay Halstead, Antonio Dawson, Erin Lindsey, Adam Ruzek, Kevin Atwater, Al Olinsky and Kim Burgess" He says pointing to everyone around the room. Taylor gives a little wave.
"Jay can you show her to Mouse? Get him to show her the ropes?"
"Yes sure, follow me" He says, leading Taylor downstairs to the garage area where the main tech hub area is. When they arrive Jay knocks on the door frame attracting the attention of Mouse.
"Mouse this is Taylor, the new tech person" Jay says, making him turn around. As he does, it's as if everything goes in slow motion for Taylor as her heart skips a beat. Mouse stands up and walks over to them, offering his hand out to Taylor.
"Pleasure to meet you" She manages to say, before recovering and trying to act normal as if nothing had ever happened.
"I'll leave you too it, Voight wants you to show her the ropes" Jay says to Mouse before quickly leaving. Taylor smiles as Mouse offers her a seat and gets to work.

He shows her the different equipment they have and then sets her up with a log in etc... A few hours later and Taylor is feeling very settled in her job and is looking forwards to working with the Intelligence unit, Mouse in particular. Luckily for Taylor and the team they didn't receive a new case that day which meant they could leave early.
"Hey Taylor, wanna come for a drink with us? Some of our friends own a bar – Molly's." Antonio ask as Taylor walks upstairs to collect her belongings with Mouse.
"Oh- uh...can I take a rein check? I mean I really want to, but I just moved into a new place and have a lot of sorting to do" Taylor says, thinking about how much she actually has to do.
"Yeah sure, see you tomorrow" Antonio says, before walking out with the others, leaving just Taylor, Mouse & Voight in his office.
"Soo, I'll see you tomorrow?" Taylor says shyly.
"Yeah, have a good night" Mouse says, as the pair makes their way down the stairs and out of the entrance.
"Good night Mouse" Taylor says, before turning and heading in the direction of her new apartment which was at least a 20-25-minute walk from the district due to her car being in the shop.

When she did eventually arrive home, she sat down and contemplated where to start. After 10 minutes she decided to forget about sorting her things and instead go out and have a drink with her new colleges. After rummaging through her boxes and finally finding what she was looking for she rushed to get changed before calling a taxi. She grabbed her purse, keys & phone before walking outside just as her taxi pulled up.
"Ermm, Molly's bar please" She says, unsure if the drivers knows where that is. Responding to her the driver nods and pulls away.

10 minutes later the driver pulls up outside the bar. Taylor gets out and pays him before he drives away. After taking a deep breathe and gathering enough courage Taylor walks inside. The bar is packed. She scans the crowd until her eyes land upon the intelligence unit in the far back corner of the bar. She carefully makes her ways towards them. Mouse is the first to notice her.
"Taylor" He says, making the others aware of her presence.
"Here, sit" He says, standing up from his seat, allowing her to sit down instead.
"Thanks" She says, flashing him a smile.
"Do you want a drink?" He asks.
"Ermm, just a vodka and coke please" She says sweetly, before her nods and walks away to the bar.
"I thought you had unpacking to do" Adam asks, making her chuckle.
"I did, but I decided this would be more fun" She says, just as Mouse returns with her drink.
"Thanks" She says, accepting it with a smile.
After sitting and talking for a while Taylor really gets to know her team and is excited to work with them. When the clock strikes 10, Taylor decides to head home.
"Right I'm off, I'll see you tomorrow" Taylor says, excusing herself before walking out of the bar. As she steps outside the cold air hits her, making her wrap her jacket around her tighter. She pulls out her phone and dials the taxi number.
"Need a lift?" Someone asks, startling Taylor. She hangs up the phone and turns around revealing Mouse.
"Oh-um, if you don't mind?" She asks.
"No trouble." He says, showing her to his car. They both get in and make general chit chat as he drives to her apartment.
"Thanks for the ride, I'll see you tomorrow" Taylor says, climbing out of the car.
"Goodnight" Mouse says, as Taylor climbs the stairs before unlocking her front door. Once Taylor is safely inside Mouse gives a quick wave before driving away. Taylor decides to have something small for dinner before changing into her pyjamas and calling it an early night. She soon falls asleep, happy from the amazing day she's had – and excited about the days that are still to come with her new colleges.
