"Don't ever doubt how much I want to protect Viola. Don't you ever. I made a mistake. I lost hope. But that doesn't mean that I want her trapped as Stoker's slave. No. I gave up, I'm only human," Jin's head had snapped sideways when I slapped him. "I believe now that there is hope. And I will fight till the end for her."
Jin straightened, absently rubbing his jaw. "That was rude."
"I was just defending myself," I responded.
"That you were," Jin chuckled. "Alright, let's go find your sister."
"You trust me?" I eyed him warily. My handprint was burning red on his pale cheek.
"I do," Jin's eyes softened, "I'm sorry I was so hard on you."
I smiled weakly, despite myself, "You were looking out for Viola's best interest, I don't blame you."
He nodded briefly, separating himself until only his hand on my back remained. Gritting my teeth, I advanced forward. My head swam and my vision refused to remain focused. We got halfway down the hall when a blood-curdling scream sounded. My heart leapt painfully into my throat. I bolted forward, breaking free from Jin. Marek released a cry of alarm, but I ignored it. Jin swore before following. My neck was throbbing something fierce by the time I pushed the door open that lead outside. I saw Viola on the ground bleeding with Momsen holding a silver gun. Stoker stood next to him, his face handsome though feral. In the next second, Marek hurtled into me, knocking me to the ground. Momsen had turned his gun on us and fired. The bullet passed through Jin as if he were merely smoke.
Without looking at me, he said, "Get Viola and get out of here."
"What about you?" I felt a flash of fear for the obnoxious man.
He smiled at me, "I need to finish something."
"Scarlet," Marek's voice distracted me. I looked at him to see that he was crouched, watching Stoker avidly. "Are you willing to die to save Viola?"
While I had been looking away, Jin had begun to attack Momsen. They had thrown any sort of weapon to the side and instead were using the fists. Stoker had taken the opportunity to begin whispering something to Viola, his lips moving to shape words that I could not understand. Heat raised up to flame my cheeks at the sight, "Yes."
"You might have to," Marek warned.
"I'll do anything," I whispered, breathless with the want to get between the two vampires.
He nodded in acknowledgement, whatever happens here, I want to tell you that I am honored to have known you.
And I you, I responded.
Without even trying, our minds began to merge together from our shared feelings. Slowly we became one, yet separate. Together we launched. With Marek lifting into the air, and me running. Marek dived, leaving a river of flame. Stoker shied away, his arm rising to shield his face. I picked up the gun that Momsen had discarded and aimed it. Vaguely, I realized that I was still in my bra and underwear. I pushed the thought out of my mind and fired. Stoker easily dodged the bullet. I continued firing, matching them in time with Marek's attacks. But Stoker was too fast, sidestepping with ease. The gun clicked as the chamber emptied. I gritted my teeth, running forward. I threw the empty gun at his head. Stoker's eyes widened and he simply moved his head so that the gun went by him. As it clattered to the ground, Marek burst through his own flames and swung his tail so that it struck the vampire's cheek. He quickly lifted himself into the air to get away.
