Never Again

Hard of Hearing

I slid down the banister of the stairs and jumped off just before i reached the bottom. "Don't do that Des, you'll break the stairs!" Adrian laughed. It's true, I'm not slim or even remotely skinney. I'm fat and have dull black hair that falls just short of my shoulders. I have my mothers round eyes but mine are brown, not at all like her shinning black ones. I have average sized boobs but they look miniscule comapared to my stomach and thighs. "Oi, thunder thighs!!! Get a move on!" Adrian yells at me, once again breaking out into laughter. "I nod my compliance and hurridly grab my breakfast, one banana. I should be grateful that Im even still in the pack! My father has threatend to kick he out so many times i've lost count. "If you're quick maybe Rafe might let you ride with us.  I mean if you don't look to bad!" He laughes in my face and i know that i'll be walking to school again today. 

I hear a car pull up and i grab my bag, "Adrian, am i riding with you or not?" I ask. "Are you stupid? Of course you aren't!" He sneers. Well then, if i dont leave now then ill be late. Rafe usually shows up around 20 minutes before school starts so i grab my  bag and make my move towards the door when Adrian yells "Oh! And don't come near us today, Rafe is going to find his mate and if you dare come near us he won't be able to scent her out over your putrid smell! So steer clear!" He says to  me. I'd forgotten, today was Rafe's 18th brithday. He would scent his mate at the exact moment he turns 18, which in his case was 9am on the dot. 

I check the time, 8:30am. I need to leave now. "See you at school Adrian i call, knowing his reply will be the same as everyday." "No you won't! You had better not come even close to us!"He yells out, just as i open the door to come face to face with Rafe. "Ew, she's still here?" Rafe yells out to my brother. I barge past Rafe, the great Alpha of California, psssht whatver! Great Alpha my ass! He is such a jackass! All i hear is an "Unfortunately" from Adrian and then I'm leave.

As i make my way to school in my baggy jeans, loose t-shirt and baggy jumper i turn my ipod volume up. I sing along to Amy Winehouse's "Valarie" and start to belt out the tune. My one redeeming quality is my voice. My mother had been an amazing singer and she had passed that on to me. My voice was like Amy Winehouse mixed with Christina Aguileira and i was proud of it. It was the only thing i had to be proud of. "Well sometimes i go out by myself, and i look across the water! And i think of all the things whatcha doing and in my head i paint a picture!" I belt out. The only things that can hear me are the birds and the forest. I like it that way. About 5 minutes away from school, Rafe,Adrian,Callum and Caeden drive past shouting and hollaring at me. I hang my head and continue on my way, this day will be the worst day ever, i can see it now! I walk into school at 8:50am and start to walk toward the school building but stop as i walk into the most amazing scent i have ever smelled in my entire life. "Mate!!!" My wolf Nadine cries! 

Where! Who! How! All the questions running through my mind were all blocked out by one. "Mate!!!! MATE!!!" Nadine cries! Her happiness is overwhealming. "Who?" I ask her but she doesn't reply. Just quietly continues to whisper "Mate."
