Anticipation

The sound of a soft groan from behind me pulled my attention away from the dark clouds and rain which had been present since dawn.

"Ka-"

"I'm here." I spoke rising from the small couch placed in the bedroom. I had moved from the bed in the small hours, placing my pillow in Zak's arms so that my absence and uneasiness wouldn't wake or trouble his sleep.

He shoved the pillow away with a confused frown whilst he rubbed at his eyes to clear the sleep "How long have you been up?"

"A while." I replied giving him a small smile as he yawned.

"I call bullshit. You look like hell." He replied making me scoff.

"Well thanks."

"You haven't slept, have you?"

I shrugged wondering to myself if I had fallen asleep for a split second this morning.

"Jesus Christ Katy." He sighed propping himself up on his elbow. "You can't be that worried about the fucking weather?"

Pushing air through my nose hard, I snapped back going on the defence "Well I haven't stayed up for the fucking fun of it!"

The outburst caused Zak to raise his brow, whilst I couldn't close my mouth fast enough. Of course I found it ridiculous that the weather had kept me up, but you hear about these freak stories. How one moment a couple were sleeping and the next they have been killed in some freak tornado attack. Or flash flooding ruining a home over night. My main fear concerning the weather was the wind. Dangerous, fast and invisible. A difficult opponent for anything and everything.

I hated the way it howled around the rental, how I jumped at the sound of the hanging basket falling, which was previously hung outside the door filled with beautiful flowers. I hated how it moved the patio furniture, causing the scraping sound at 2am. Or how it fell silent before a hard bluster came in making me fear that the roof would come off unexpectedly.

"Sorry." I whispered, deciding to lower my tone so that this didn't develop into an argument.

"Same here, I know you hate the wind but I'm here. You should have woke me, I'm used to late nights, remember?" He asked giving me a gentle smile.

"It's pathetic, really. Something I should have grown out of."

"And I should have grown out of my fear of heights but we all can't be perfect. However your late night changes things.."

"How so?" I questioned fiddling with the sheets on the bed.

"You're just gonna have to come to work with me, all day and night if needs be. Whatever it takes to make you feel comfortable."

I went to object when he raised his hands "It's final. Now let's get this day started." As he sat up he looked outside "Dracula weather, perfect."

Perfect for him.. Not so perfect for me!

 Not so perfect for me!
