The rain was pouring hard and the chill is creeping up my spine. I forgot to bring my umbrella so I stay covered under the waiting shed by the parking lot. It's getting late but I can't leave yet. Trish is still getting her bags in the locker room from the old building. I thought of the homework Ms. Edwards gave us on Literature. I still have to read the book so I can provide an actual review of it.
A quick glimpse at my moist watch says it is already past eight in the evening. I wonder what happened to Trish. What could be taking her so long? Just when I decided to be reckless and start walking in the rain, I heard her approaching, laughing with some friends. I looked back and confirmed it was indeed Trish, Victoria, and Hazel. I waited patiently until they reached my spot.
"Is she coming with us, then?" I heard Vic nodding to me.
"Coming where?" I asked, a little irritated because I have been waiting for some time now for Trish, and now Trish is going somewhere.
"Easy, Lana. Vic is inviting us to their house. Her parents won't be around until tomorrow morning so it is okay for us to sleep over." Trish enthusiastically said.
"But I didn't bring anything with me. I only have my toothbrush and nothing more." I complained also, thinking about the homework which is due on Friday. I only have two more days left to finish reading the book and I haven't started a page yet.
Trish somehow contemplated and agreed that we meet Vic and Hazel up again later after she accompanies me back to the dorm to get my things. She wouldn't take a no for an answer. I must bring my laptop too so I can still work on my homework while at Vic's else, I would want to fail the subject.
Trish was in a good mood today. While we were walking back to my dorm, she was humming a happy tune as if singing in the rain.
"What are we going to do at Vic's?" I asked curiously. She was a free soul, a total opposite of me. She would normally do what she wants like ditch classes, drink on weekdays, forget her homework and sometimes flirt with the young female professors around campus. She can be rebellious but still pass the course with flying colors.
"She says we can drink some of the beer in the house, watch movies, play some games and she also said we can have the guest room all to ourselves." She winked. I can't help but giggle. It seems like Trish has mastered the art of flirting. Whoever gets in the hook, gets played. At first, I even thought that I was just part of a bet. She had been into one of my freshmen classes and we were obviously competitors in recitation and in aiming for the top. Rumors started circulating that she was onto someone who is a total opposite of her and that she will make sure that she falls into her charm. Once she conquered her, she will leave her crying on the pavement with her grades failing. Whoever spread the gossip made sure it would reach my knowledge. Some classmates even teased me that she got her eyes on me. I was not afraid, not even threatened. She was just some lonely girl asking for pure attention.
"You are sneaky. How am I going to work on my homework then?" I was worried. I have been postponing the reading for a while now and the days have gone. I haven't started a page of the review and cannot focus to even start.
"There's what they call the internet, my dear. I will introduce you to her once we are there, okay?" She answered, chill as the weather. She stopped and gave me a peck on the head for reassurance. In all honesty, I was reassured. I jogged up to my room and packed the essentials. When I came back down to where she was waiting, she has a bigger smile plastered on her face.
"What?" I asked wiping my face for whatever dirt she finds funny on it.
"While waiting, I have thought of a much better idea." She beamed.
