71st Hunger Games

Chapter 1:

I turn around and look at the clock. It's 9:30 am. Jumping out of bed, I open my wardrobe. My parents are still sleeping. They should be up by now to cut down trees. As I pull on a plain top and trousers, I look around for my axe. It's lying on my bedside table. I grab it and sprint out of the house, slamming the door behind me.

Where is every one? I wonder to myself as I approach the woods where I can use my axe as much as I want. But then I remember, it's the day of the reaping. I frown and throw my axe into the muddy ground. Stomping back to my house, I hear a faint buzzing sound coming from the distance. Of course, it's the hovercraft from The Capitol with Ablothia Feyling, the person who picks the names. I rush back to my house and shut the door. My mother and father are awake. " Johanna, is it you honey? " she calls from the kitchen. " Yep, just me." I mumble. I have a bath and put 'nice' clothes on. I hate them but my parents adore them so I can't let them down.

We walk to the square and get our fingers pricked and they take a drop of blood and stamp it in a book thing with all our names. I walk over to the 16 year old girls section. There are children from twelve to eighteen here. I stop listening and just stare in front of me until I hear it.
Ablothia Feyling said Johanna Mason.
