The 71st Hunger Games

Chapter 21:

I stare down at my axe. My axe! I still can't believe I got this axe. Looking down at the girl at the bottom of the tree, I hear the hovercraft come to collect her. The careers aren't back yet. But I hear their footsteps as the hovercraft takes the girl from 2, Malaila, who knows where. As they watch her being lifted, I see something in bush behind them. I pull my legs up and clutch the tree tightly. Boom! The boy from Four falls to his knees. The remaining careers spin around and run in the direction that the throwing knife came from. I creep down the tree and go the opposite direction. It's the way the I went at the start.
When I can see the Cornucopia, I look around and check for guards. There aren't any. I run inside it with my axe in my hand. I grab a backpack and another axe. checking the area around the Cornucopia, I run towards the trees. The sand that surrounds me is hard to run through, but I get into the trees before anyone spots me. I climb the highest tree as soon as I'm as far away from the sand that I can be. In my backpack there is, rope, iodine, an empty bottle and a few packets of dry fruit. There must be water somewhere. I think as the Capitol seal appears. Malaila, from 2, the boy from District 4 and the girl apparently from District 10. I sigh. 11 children left.
