The 71st Hunger Games
Chapter 20:
My eyes fly open.
Screaming.
I pull me knees up to my chest. Remembering that I'm in a tree, I lower them down again. The screaming continues. I scan the area around me.
Careers.
I jump up and start to climb higher, hoping they won't notice me.
"Ha! Look at this pathetic screaming girl!" Says a female career, I think it's one from District 1.
"It's not like we're going to kill you... oh wait, we are!" Says the guy from 4. The careers make me sick. I carry on climbing until the branches start to get quite thin. Malaila, the girl in 2, laughs and gets out her axe. I really need to find a way to kill her. She jabs the axe into the girl, from I don't know what Districts, heart. I wince as I see the girl collapse onto the ground. The blood spews out of her and surrounds her. I reach my hand into my pocket. Nightlock! I need to get a sponsor and I can put the nightlock into the parachute. Slowly, I look up to the sky and act as if I desperately need water. Then, after about 1 minute, I see something silver coming down. A parachute. I grab it and see what's inside. Water. I take a sip and then tuck the bottle into my jacket pocket. Taking the nightlock out of the other pocket, I look down to make sure the careers are still there. The District 1 and 4 careers are starting to turn away. I place the nightlock into the container and let go of the parachute. Malaila, the girl from 2, sees it and grabs it before the boy from 2 can. She opens it and tips the nightlock into her mouth. By now, all of the careers have walked away, assuming she was following them. BOOM! I climb down the tree as fast as I can and grab her stuff. As soon as I have it, I scramble back up the tree.
An axe. I can't believe I succeeded in getting an axe!
