K.O was finished with his shift early because it was Saturday. It was also a day that he didn't have school, so that was a good thing. His mom, Carol, was in the car ready to go home with her son. K.O got in the car and buckled up.Carol started the car and drove off. The drive home was silent and K.O just looked out the car window. He had so many unanswered questions he had for Cassandra and Carmen. Like, how do you know this? What won't you tell me? Why is this happening? Who took my friends?
He was even starting to have second thoughts about going on this adventure with them. But he shrugged that feeling off. Carol was starting to become a little concerned for her son because on the ride back home, he didn't say one word.
"Hey, K.O. are you alright honey?" Carol asked. This snapped her son out of his thoughts.
"Oh, I'm okay mom. Its just that Enid and Rad didn't show up for work today." the young child explained to his mother.
"Whys that?" Carol asked with almost a suspicious tone in her voice.
"Well, Rad was going to stock up the new shipment of supplies we got until he said he had to leave early because he got a really bad headache. Same thing with Enid, she also left early because she got a really bad headache." K.O explained.
Carol was silent for a moment. "You usually don't go silent from work after a migraine." she said in almost a whisper.
They made it home and went inside. K.O went to his room to pack up the stuff he needed on this little adventure. While he was doing that, his mom was relaxing on the couch watching whatever peeked her interest.
K.O was about to put the last thing he needed in his backpack when suddenly he got a call from an anonymous number. He was hesitate to answer until he gathered the courage to do so.
"H-hello?" K.O asked nervously.
"Hey K.O its me."
"Enid?"
"No its Santa Clause, of course not! it's, Cassandra." Cassandra said in sarcasm.
"Ha ha very funny." K.O said in annoyance. "So, how did you get my number? And why are you calling me?"
"1, I don't know. 2, I'm calling you because I need to tell you that we need you to meet us at the plaza at 10:00PM." Cassandra explained.
"That's past my bed time." K.O protested.
"Well, too bad kid. We leave at 10:05 so don't be late, or we're leaving without you." She said with a little bit of bitterness in her voice. She was silent for a moment until responding.
"K.O, you know you don't really have to come with us, right?"
"But I do want to come. I want to be there to save my friends." K.O said with a tone of happiness.
K.O sat on his bed, quiet. His room was dead silent until he jumped at the sound of his moms voice, calling him down for dinner.
"I have to go. Bye."
"Bye filesha." Cassandra said before she hung up. K.O sighed and sat on his bed for a bit. This didn't feel right to him. Lying to his mom and leaving without telling her where he's going. It felt so wrong to him, but K.O shook that feeling off.
