"Umm Hayes, I don't-"
"I'll see you after school, at my house, bye Jasmine." He said while walking to class.
Wow. That didn't go how I had expected it to. I walked to class and of course everyone was staring at me.
You know that tension when you walk in and the teacher's teaching, then stops? Yeah, it was THAT kind of tension.
I walked all the way to the back of the classroom and took my seat.
Mrs. Jason is my favorite teacher. She knows I'm antisocial and doesn't take it hard on me. Unlike most of my other teachers, she understands me, but I'm not treated any different than the others. She just doesn't yell at me and helps me more, but I'm definitely not the teacher's pet.
"Well, if it isn't Jasmine, everyone bow down to your highness of Loserville." Ashley states while laughing.
"Ashley, you have no place to talk, you're the school cheese tray." I hear a familiar voice say.
"Mr. Grier, what are you doing interrupting my class?"
"Oh, yeah, um, I'm actually transferred to your class now, Mrs. J. Here's the note." He answered, while smiling at me.
"Well, since there's no empty seats in the front of the class, you'll have to pick one of the three empty seats in the back." Mrs. Jason told him.
So there's three empty seats, and of course one of them was right next to me. Oh, I wonder where he will choose to sit. Note the sarcasm.
"Hey Jasmine, what a funny coincidence to find you here in Mrs. Jason's class."
"Hayes, there's only 2 other math teachers in the 7th grade. So what's the coincidence that you had a 50% chance of being in my class, if you transferred from 1 out of the 3?"
"Look, Jasmine. I know we've had a rough history. I know my friends have made your life miserable. Please, just forgive me?" He says while whispering.
"Hayes, it wasn't only just YOUR friends. It was YOU TOO! And not only have you made my life miserable, but to think that we were best friends is what hurts the most." I say whispering a little louder than I should.
"Jasmine."
"Hayes."
"Mr. Grier, if you are going to bother Miss. Coleman then I suggest you change seats." Mrs. Jason states.
A part of me wishes that he'll actually leave, but the other part wants him to stay.
"I'm sorry, Mrs. J I promise I won't distract her anymore."
Now he's not going to talk to me. Great. Now I'll never know what he was going to say. We just worked on inequalities the rest of the period. My least favorite unit in the math course.
The bell was about to ring so everyone started packing up. Then, I thought if Hayes could get his class switched to mine, what other classes did he switch?
Right then the bell rang and we went to our second period class. I had U.S. history with Mr. Fields. I was in complete shock when the brown haired boy with beautiful blue eyes didn't show up.
"Oh class we will be working with Mrs. Craig's class on a group project. We already sorted out the groups so, I'll read off the list."
"Julia S, Anthony F, Tyler M, Emily P."
"Next, Hannah W, Jacob K, Tomas H, Nicole A."
"Jasmine C, Hayes G, Megan T, and John O."
"Blah. Blah. Blah. With blah blah. Next Blah blah and blah blah blah." The list continued of students in groups of four.
Oh great. If he's not transferred, he's in a different class that happens to be working with us. Speak of the devil, Mrs. Craig's class starts showing up.
The whole class of 24 piles in and gets with their groups. I ended up being with Hayes and his best friend John. Yep. John was one of the boys who bullied me, no tension building up at all.
Luckily, Megan was one of my really close friends. I'm not that much of a loser that no one liked me, I just never give them a chance so I don't give them the option to hurt me.
I was then snapped out of my thoughts by John squeezing my thigh, making me yell "Ahh!"
The class was really quiet after that and knowing me I don't like drawing attention. Hayes then gave a murderous look to John and John just shrugged his shoulders.
Since today was day one of the project, it was our "Discussion Day." Basically, Hayes and John were talking about whatever and Megan and I were talking about The Fault in Our Stars. OMG that book. We then started quoting TFIOS.
"It's a metaphor, see: You put the killing thing right between your teeth, but you don't give it the power to do its killing." I quoted.
"Omg, the Fault in Our Stars, you guys are such typical girls." Hayes says while laughing and John high-fiving him.
Great we're back to this. Right then Mr. Fields started talking, "Okay, so both classes will meet in this classroom tomorrow, so come straight here." Everyone said their "Okay's", "Got it's", and "Whatever's."
The bell rang again and that class was probably the longest 40 minutes of my life.
"So after Mrs. Jason's class we'll walk together to Mr. Fields." Hayes stated.
"Sure, what else do I have to live for." I say sarcastically.
"Okay, so I'll see you after school right? My house remember." He said while winking at me and walking the opposite way down the hallway.
What is Benjamin Hayes Grier doing to me?
