bitter backgrounds

"I know," he replied softly and I looked up at him. "Father told me, it was under command of the high administration of Miyabigaoka."

I wanted to cry.

Tora, if only you knew.

But you can't.

"Yeah," I gulped, my hand finding his in an instant. "But there's a way to get out of things before they spiral out of control," I continued.

"I thought they had already chosen the male to wed you to," he furrowed his brows.

"They have, but there's only one way to get out of that. The role that overrides everything for me as the vice president," I told him and I knew he was aware of the solution.

His arms tightened around me as he spoke.

"Marrying the student council president."

"Exactly."

He was silent for a moment after his realization.

"I should have never stepped do-"

"Do not dare to blame yourself over this," I sat up and faced him. "I need you to know that this goes deeper than the surface. None of us could have stopped this, it was planned from the start," I knew I couldn't explain everything to him yet.

"I-I don't get it!" He tugged at his hair in frustration and I pulled his hands back.

"Tora, stop!" I had leaned further into him without realizing and his eyes never left mine. "You can't torment yourself over this," I breathed out.

"How will marrying Leo solve things?" He took a sharp breath in, his arms pulling me closer to him.

"Because it won't even be a real marriage."

"I never agreed to this."

Sitting at the table, I tried to resist the urge to slam my head against it.

"Well pretty boy, I didn't either," Leo crosssed his arms, raising a brow at him.

"Too bad for the both of you, this is happening," I stood up, the papers scattered in front of our view. "With the marriage contract, even their finest lawyers won't see the deception under the words until the time comes for us to use our own words to our advantage. They're too blind to see the open loophole," I grabbed water, placing it over the table for the three of us.

"But the ritual is still taking place," Tora gritted his teeth and I gazed at him.

Biting my lip, I parted them to speak, Leo beating me to it.

"Ritual or not, the marriage isn't real," he took a deep breath. "You're acting like this is only tough on you," he scoffed, getting up. "I feel like I'm being suffocated, I'll be back," he sighed as he tossed his jacket onto the chair.

Flashing a smile, Leo walked out the door and I rested my head over the table.

"I-I'm sorry. I'm trying to cooperate, even if it seems like I'm not, just I can't handle the thought and let alone being there to witness the actual marriage happening while I stand there and watch," Tora didn't continue, stopping himself and I got up.

Stepping towards him, I crouched beside him, my hand over his and my other raised his chin.

"You don't need to apologize, we are working things out and sure we could be nicer about things, but it's not easy for any of us," I took a deep breath before leaning forward.

Letting my lips rest over his cheek, I watched his eyes widen as I pulled back.

"With time, Tora," I gulped.

I'll prove my love for you.

But not now.

It's too dangerous for you.

I will never risk you over myself.

"We will be together again, and when that moment comes again, I will never let go of you then. A mistake that will not be repeated," I stated and he abruptly pulled me into his hold.

"Y/N," he breathed out, his arms over me as my legs were sprawled over the seat and I was rested against him.

Running his fingers through my hair, my breath hitched when I felt his lips by my ear.

Swiftly moving his lips down my jaw, my hand tensed over his shoulder and he pressed his lips firmly over the side of my neck, his kisses over my shoulder.

Sinking my nose into the deep scent of forests that he naturally had, my breath fanned over his neck and I let my eyes shut to rest, intertwining our hands together.

Tora's POV

"You're in love with her, aren't you."

My words rung through the air and Leo raised his head to stare at me.

"The moment I laid eyes over her."

I gritted my teeth at his response, yet he gave me a smile.

"And that means I'm willing to let her go for her happiness."

"She seems plenty happy with you too," I noted and I heard him mutter something under his breath.

"Look, if you think I'm going to try something over her that she may not want, then lose the thought. I'll never put her in that position," he narrowed his eyes. "I'm only doing this so she can come back to you."

Undoing his tie, he set it over his jacket.

"Leo is Latin for lion, and I'm sure you're aware of it. Just like Tora is Japanese for tiger," his eyes met mine again and I rose a brow. "Yet I seem of no roman origin."

"Exactly," I clicked my tongue, my hand over Y/N as she slept soundly. "That's because the true Latin origin goes back to Italy before the Roman Empire embraced Latin," I raised my jaw as he cocked a brow back at me.

"Precisely, quite impressed may I say," he grinned. "Not many are aware," his expression turned grim in a moment. "Maybe it's better that way," with a soft sigh, he turned away.

Letting my thoughts run through, I spoke boldly.

"Leone."
