A/N: Sorry that I could not find a better song other than this country one, but looking and listening to its lyrics, I really think that it fits in well with the story. Again all credits go to who sang this song(sorry I don't know) but I did switch only very few words with other words.Ben sat in his office, staring at the piles and piles of paper on his desk. He couldn't help but compare to how similar it looked when Mal had come to his office, asking for his help. The pain hit him in the heart all over again, as tears started swelling up in his eyes. He decided that he was going to take a break. He pushed away all his papers and grabbed his phone and keys and headed off to the Enchanted Lake.
He arrived at the lake and walked over to Mal's grave. Similar to Evie, he placed down a bouquet of purple flowers and knelt down. Tears started to fill his eyes again as he looked at her gravestone. He couldn't believe that he would be standing over his love's grave. He remembered all their good times together. Their first date. The cotillion. That one time where she put him under her love spell and he serenaded her with a song im front of the whole school. Thinking back to that last moment gave him an idea. With a deep breath he began to sing.
"Sunny days seem to hurt the most.
I wear the pain like a heavy coat.
I feel you everywhere I go.
I see your smile, I see your face,
I hear you laughin' in the rain.
I still can't believe you're gone.It ain't fair: you died too young,
Like the story that had just begun,
But death tore the pages all away.
God knows how I miss you,
All the hell that I've been through,
Just knowin' no-one could take your place.
An' sometimes I wonder,
Who'd you be today?Would you see the world? Would you chase your dreams?
Settle down with a family,
I wonder what we'd name our children?
Some days the sky's so blue,
I feel like I can talk to you,
An' I know it might sound crazy. It ain't fair: you died too young,
Like the story that had just begun,
But death tore the pages all away.
God knows how I miss you,
All the hell that I've been through,
Just knowin' no-one could take your place.
An' sometimes I wonder,
Who you'd be today?"
He ended the song with his tears rolling down his face. It wasn't fair.Just because he was too much of an idiot to see how much pain she was in, to put aside his work to listen to her, she had died. And he would never forget about it. He would never stop beating himself over it. And he would never ever move on. He knew he eventually have to find someone to make queen, so that his father's lineage would not end with him, and hopefully not end. But the thought of trying to find someone when all he could do was think of Mal, was too much to think about. That wouldn't be for a while.
Mal was gone because of him. He wouldn't forget about that. The way her face looked up at him in horror, as he threw the vase dangerously close to her body.
That image would haunt him for the rest of his life.
