Cameron Dallas, age 14, Flashback

"Mom can I go to the bathroom?" Cameron asked anxiously as he tugged on his mothers sleeve.

"Yes honey just hurry back and meet me at the check out line." She told him and he rushed away to the bathroom, happy that he could finally use it after drinking a whole can of soda.

He went through the bathroom hall, eyeing the two doors. One for women and one for men. He obviously proceeded to go into the men's bathroom but came to a stop once he heard crying from the bathroom.

He stood in front of the girls bathroom door and paused. Should I go in there? He thought.

His feelings got the best of him and he found himself pushing open the door and walking through the stalls. The crying quieted down at his presence.

"Hello? Are you alright?" He asked in a hushed voice as he stopped in front of a stall.

"Go away!" The girl yelled from the stall, her voice laced with pain and anger.

"I know you're crying but can you at least talk to me? I may be able to make you feel better?" he persisted, simply because he didn't like people being upset.

She slowly opened the stall and her eyes locked with Cameron's. His eyes trailed over the faded cuts that were evident along her arms as well as the new ones that were bleeding.

"Please... Don't tell" she pleaded, more tears running down her face.

Camerons looked over the girl once more before stepping towards her.

"Its okay. I won't. Don't do this to yourself. You're too beautiful to be cutting yourself."

She hugged Cameron, making sure to keep her arm up so no blood would get on him.

"I'm.... Emma... Emma Locke" she said hesitantly.

Cameron pulled away slightly and stared at her. He could see through her. He could see that nothing was okay in her life and he desperately wanted to change that.

"I'm Cameron... Dallas." Cameron said in a hushed voice.

He walked over to the sink to get her a paper towel and wet it. He slowly cleaned off the blood that was on her arm. He took the razor from her and threw it away.

He took another paper towel and wrapped it around her arm then took a rubber band from his pocket to secure it.

"I don't know you too well but please don't do this to yourself." Cameron pleaded once again.

"Emma!" A woman's voice screeched as she walked into the bathroom.

"What are you doing with this boy? You bitch." She gritted through her teeth. "Let's go right now!" She yelled sternly as she marched towards her leaving Cameron intimidated.

She grabbed her by the arm tightly and started to drag her out the bathroom, Emma wincing at the pain. She turned around just in time to mouth "thank you" to Cameron and he gave her a slight nod.

Cameron soon left the bathroom and continued to the boys bathroom, knowing that he would never forget what just happened.

Back to Present Time.

Emma's POV

I won't ever forget that boy. Cameron. He saved my life that day and the reason I haven't given up yet, is because of him. I have no idea where he is now, but there's a little thought in my mind I have. It tells me that he cared about me that day even if he didn't know me. So I feel some sort of happiness knowing that someone at least cared.

My life is pretty much no different than the way it was when i was 14. Now I'm 17. I have to leave my house a lot. Just to get away from my mother. She's always getting drunk and forgetting my name as if I'm nothing to her. But occasionally, she'd be fine. I treasured those days simply because it felt like I had my real mother back. I wouldn't be alarmed when she went back to her ways of cruelty the next day because it was a common thing for me. Why I put up with this, I don't know.

I'm outside now, walking. Theres a raffle going on for a Cash prize and a gift card for Starbucks. I don't care much for the gift card, I just need the money. I entered in hopes of winning. If I win, I might just be able to get away from this place and escape to a place of purpose.
