After returning home from the party, the time read 1:05 when Jean walked into her bedroom. The house was eerily quiet, so Jean crept into the kitchen expecting her mother or Abbie to be waiting for her, but instead she found a note. Confused she picked up the note and read it outloud:
Jean-
Dad and I took everyone out on a spontaneous adventure.
We thought it was a good idea. So enjoy the house to
youself!
Love, Mom
The thing with her parents was that they liked to take random trips at random times. One time they pulled her out of school on a Monday and they spent the entire in a cramped hotel room that was in the middle of no where. The trips usually ended up being more miserable than fun.
Kicking off her shoes, Jean walked out of the kitchen and upstairs to her room. She grabbed a some roll-up sweats, and an oversized t-shirt, then jumped into the shower. The warm water was inviting so she spent a good ten minutes just letting the water run over her body. After she was satisfied with the shower, she got out changing into her clothes. Walking out of the bathroom, she walked over to a bookshelf in her room, and grabbed the movie 27 Dresses off one of the shelves. She walked back downstairs, popped in the movie, and as the previews were going she made herself some popcorn and something to drink.
Once she sat down and pressed play, she burst out crying. Full on crying too. The night had been horrible, she almost got assaulted and her heart had been broken. Sobbing uncontrollably, she fell onto her side on the couch and curled into a ball, sobbing into the couch. Punching one of the cushions, she screamed into the couch out of sheer frustration.
After about two hours and pressing replay on the movie, Jean sat up rubbing her sore eyes.
She did the best thing she could think of to do and that was to call Maggie.

After she called her best friend and burst into tears on the phone, Maggie showed up at her door twenty minutes later with two grocery bags stuffed with junk food.
Jean let her head while a grateful smile. Maggie knew that sweets cheered her up.
They sat together on the couch, each wrapped up in a blanket while munching on a creation that was a mix of a smore with reese's cups, skittles, and cosmic brownies. Jean had changed movies to The Notebook.
Maggie turned to her and paused the movie.
"So... Would you like to tell me what happened?"
And so Jean told her about her horrible night.

"I'M GOING TO KILL THOSE BASTARDS!" Maggied screamed. She was absolutely furious by the time Jean had finished telling her what had happened. She wanted to kill every guy on the football team, which seemed pretty invitiing, but Jean didn't want her to stoop to their level.
"Shhh. You'll wake up my neighbors!" She covered Maggie's mouth as Maggie began shouting profanities.
Eventually she calmed down, allowing Jean to remove her hand.
"Brayden was going to take advantage of you." She murmured glancing at me. I shuddered at the thought and turned away from her.
She began rambling about how it wasn't right for a guy to do that no matter how popular they were. In the middle of Maggie's rant, she felt sick so she ran to the bathroom and puked up the alcohol she had consumed earlier that night.
"Jesus Jean, how much did you drink?" She was about to answer her, but she turned her head and puked even more in the toilet. After she was done, Jean slumped against the wall and her head was hammering.
A pair of hands carrying a glass of water and a pain killer came into her vision and she gladly accepted the offer.
Downing the water and pill, she muttered a thank you as she felt her eyes drooping. Before she fell asleep, she felt someone settle next to her pulling a blanket over both of them.
"Jeez. What am I going to do with you?" After that she let the darkness of sleep consume her.

She woke up to the sound of her phone going off. Getting up, she moved so that Maggie wouldn't wake up. She walked into the living room, grabbing her phone off of one of the coffee tables. Glancing through it she saw that she had 5 unread text messages, which were all from Josh, and 2 missed calls, one from Abbie and one from Josh (no surprise).
Dialing her sister's number, she was greeted by girlish squealing in the phone.
"Ohmegawd, Jeannieeee! This trip rocks!" Jean could hear music in the background and people laughing.
"Why didn't mom and dad want me to come along?" She had a bit of hurt in her tone, but it went undetected.
"They thought you would like having the house to yourself." Abbie sighed in the phone, before laughing again. "Jake stop!" Whoever was making her sister laugh was doing a good job at it because normally Abbie can hold a conversation despite distractions, but at this point it seemed like she was extremely distracted.
Jean heard the noise get quieter and quieter until it was all gone. Abbie cleared her throat over the phone, "So, how was the party?"
"It was good." She gritted her teeth when she said this. Deciding to change the subject she asked a question. "Who's Jake?"
"He is amazing, Jeannie! I met him while we're at this hotel, which by the way is amazing for once, and he's the sweetest guy ever! He has the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen! Plus he's taller than me." Her laughter filled the phone as she continued. "When we got here last night, I was dreading it, ya know? But when I was walking inside the hotel I accidently tripped, but before I could fall, I was caught. After that I looked up to see none other than tall, dark, AND handsome holding onto my waist. Of course I got flustered beyong flustered and blurted out an excuse about having to go to the restroom. He laughed at that point, not mean but in a charming way, like as though he's saying 'I know you're freaking out, so I'm not going to bother you ' kind of way." She sighed dreamily into the phone, causing Jean to chuckle. "Anyways, after I ran off to the restroom and regained my confidence I walked out and as I did I walked straight into him. He caught me AGAIN. And then we sort of hung out in the lobby for a good 2 hours just talking about ourselves and getting to know eachother. It was like we clicked instantly. So here I am at this party that was a few blocks away from the hotel, and he's with me and oh, it's just so amazing!"
"That's really good! About time your lonely ass met someone." Jean laughed as she heard Abbie tell her fuck you through the phone. "So when will you guys be home?"
"Um... 2 days or so. Mom and dad don't want you guys to miss a lot of school. Oh that's right! They told me to tell you that you can stay home Monday because we won't be back until Monday night! How awesome, right?"
It was awesome indeed. She was going to need those days alone to mend her heart.
