Two weeks had approximately passed since Jean and Josh had found their new profound love for each other. Everything was peachy and everyone was actually really happy for them. It seemed like a love out of the movies where the popular boy ended up falling for the girl that no one knew.

The school was hyped up on the upcoming homecoming game that was in a week and a half. Living in a small town, everyone was obsessed with school sports; especially football. Josh was the quarterback so he had a lot riding on his back for the game.

"Jean! Get up you lazy cow!" Stomping over to a snoozing Jean, Abbie grabbed her sister's foot and with one strong tug she yanked Jean off of the bed.

Jean shot up instantly, her eyes wide as she focused on Abbie. "Jeez, that was a really rude way to wake someone up, you know!"

"Well if I didn't wake you up then you would have been later for school than you already are." Abbie rolled her eyes at her sister's snappy mood and then left the room.

Realization struck Jean as she glanced over her clock. It ready 9:45 and her heart practically dropped. She had never once been late to school and she had intended to remain that way until the end of high school.

Hurriedly, Jean shoved on the first outfit she could find which was an oversized shirt and a pair of jeans plus sandals. She shoved her hair into a ponytail and after brushing her teeth she ran downstairs, ignoring her family's look of surprise of seeing that she was still at home.

She made it to school by 10:00 which was pretty good. Running all the way to the office, Jean opened the door, and went up to the lady that sat at the desk.

"Excuse me?" The woman glanced up at her through thick spectacles. "I'm uh...late." Jean mumbled the last part, but thankfully the woman heard her and nodded.

"Alright Ms. Meadows, it's third period right now and you have a lunch detention." Narrowing her eyes at Jean's appearance she shook her head in distaste. "I hope this is a lesson for you."

Jean took the tardy slip from her and walked out of the office with her head hanging in shame.

During the rest of her classes until lunch, she heard everyone talking about a new girl. The guys said that she was extremely hot and most of them wanted to escort her to the homecoming football game. The girls were seething with envy and desperately wanted to beat the new girl up already.

As the bell rang for lunch, Jean bolted out of her seat and made her way down the hall towards where her and Josh would always meet up at lunch. She had to break the news to him that she had been late to school that day and would not be joining him for lunch.

The first thing she saw was the perky, blonde ponytail. After that everything was sort of a blur because the girl, which Jean knew instantly that was the new girl, had her head and arm resting against Josh's left arm. The two of them were looking into each other's eyes and laughing at some inside joke.

Jealous surged through her as she approached them. Josh's face lit up even more as he saw her. Not bothering to get the blonde girl off of his arm, he smiled at Jean.

"Hey, Jean! Meet Kyla. Her and I go way back. She just asked me if I could show her around for the next few days. Are you ok with that?" Josh seemed way too happy for Jean to say no so she simply nodded. Not noticing her lack of a reaction, Josh continued chatting away with Kyla, completing ignoring her.
