Jean watched as the two of them continued to kiss; completely oblivious to her standing there. She felt her heart breaking as she watched the same lips that stole her first kiss, press against some other person's lips. Everyone that was outside had stopped talking and sat staring at Jean, expecting her to freak out.
But the only thing she could do was watch. She was frozen with shock, hurt, and most of all betrayal.
Finally noticing the silence that had settled around them, Josh broke the kiss and looked around at everyone's faces until his gaze landed on Jean.
He shoved Kyla away from him and began pacing towards Jean. Apologies spilled out of his mouth, but she couldn't hear them at all. She looked behind him and saw Kyla smiling victoriously at her.
Raising her hand, Josh stopped mid stride.
Jean looked at him as she lowered her hand. She felt the tears prickling in her eyes and she began to speak.
"Why Josh? Why? Was I not good enough for you? No wait; don't answer any of those. You did this because you were never over her. I was just a tool to you. You never freaking liked me! I was just something to pass time with, huh! You cheating son of a bitch! I should have seen this coming! I should have known. I watched the she took you away from me. You know what? You are no different then what Brayden did to you. But hey, the plus side is that you finally got the girl you've always wanted." She paused taking a shaky breath. Feeling someone step beside her, she looked up to see Sam seething with rage.
"This?" She gestured between her and Josh with her hand. "This is over. This was never a thing. It was sad that it took a slut to make me realize it." She gulped and watched as Josh's eyes grew with sadness.
"You two deserve each other." She muttered the last part and looked down at the ground.
Josh began to open his mouth, but before he could say anything Sam rushed forward and punched him in the jaw. Josh's head snapped to the side as he stumbled back.
Jean squeezed her eyes shut as she made her way back inside the house, ignoring the silence that had settled in the house.
She saw Maggie looking at her apologetically, but she shook her head and ignored her. Sam caught up with Jean as she made it outside and was halfway to his truck.
They got into the vehicle in silence. As he started the truck, he looked over at her and patted her on the head.
"It's going to be ok."
Jean stared out the window as they drove away from the party.
Nothing's ever ok.

Once they got home, Jean remained silent as she made her way up to her room. Her mom questioned her on why they were home so early, but Sam had shot her a warning glance.
Jean plopped down onto her bed. She picked up her phone and saw messages from Josh. He told her that he was sorry, he didn't mean for anything of that to happen, and that he liked her not Kyla.
"Bullshit." Jean muttered as she threw her phone against the wall. She rolled over onto her stomach. For some reason she couldn't cry, she wasn't sad at all actually just....disappointed.
A part of her knew that something like this was bound to happen. After all Josh was one of the golden boys and she was the exact opposite of that. She was the girl that was going to graduate with a regular grade point average, a boring school life, and then go off to an average college.
Average. Jean pulled her hands into fists as she began punching her pillow.
She had tried so hard to not stand out even though she had wanted to. Josh had been her ticket out of the norm and into a life consisting of fun. But obviously this proved to be too much, she had been used like a piece of paper and thrown to the side like yesterday's garbage.
"It's because I'm not pretty enough." She sat up and stared at her reflection in her mirror. Glaring at the mirror, she reached over and grabbed the closest thing that she could find which was her phone.
Picking it up, she pulled back her arm and threw it at the mirror as hard as she could. Jean watched as the mirror cracked on impact and as the phone fell back to the ground, pieces of the mirror fell alongside it.
She fell back onto her bed and stared at her ceiling.
"I can never catch a break, can I?"

The week flew by and Jean absolutely looked like crap. Everyone was being abnormally nice to her, but she could care less. As the week progressed towards Friday, Jean felt herself getting over Josh.
She presented herself as a strong girl, despite everyone's pity glances, but inside she was still broken. Josh had skipped school until Wednesday, but when he came back on Thursday he looked like crap also. Kyla was draped on his arm, but he seemed like he was ignoring her.
On occasions, Jean would pass by him in the hall and while he watched her, she just stared at the ground.
For some reason she felt that portraying herself outwardly as a strong girl everyone would move on and then Jean could move on.
