My name is Andrew Davidson and I am 17 years old. I'm a simple guy in 12th grade. I may not be popular or that good looking, (I wear these thick rimmed eyeglasses, by the way) but I am smart.- One of the brightest in my class, if I do say so myself. But the smartest one in our class, I have to say, would be Jane Lewis. Not only is she smart, she's also really talented, athletic and very popular.-pretty much what I'm not. But hey, opposites do attract right?
But one thing I can brag is that I'm rich. Probably the richest kid in school. But if you're in 12th grade, being rich means being used by phony friends. Although I'm in a living hell, there will always be my angel.-Jane. I sat next to her in every single class, I don't know why, but happy accident, i guess...
The first time I had the guts to finally talk to her was after attending the mathletes club after class, when she was sitting outside at the schoolyard, crying- alone.
"uh..um..are you-are you okay?" i said.
"Of course! I'm fine-I'm totally fine!" she said, faking a smile.
Even to a moron, it was clear that she wasn't. You could hear the nervousness of her voice as she spoke.
"um..uh..maybe-maybe this c-can help.." i said, offering my handkerchief. She took it slowly, making sure I couldn't see her face.
"Hey, it's okay, just let it all out." i said. And she did. This went on for a few minutes, her sobbing in my arms until my driver came and motioned for me to go.
I took one last glance at her and she looked at me as if she wanted to say something. But before she could even speak, my driver honked the horn. I so badly wanted to curse my driver, but a voice in my head said '' dude, not in front of her.'
"I uh, I gotta go." i said. She just nodded and I went beside the car.
"Take care of yourself, okay?" i said. She mouthed the words 'I will' and smiled. - a real smile.
--------------------------------------------
The following day, she approached me after class.
"um Andrew? I uh- I just wanted to say th-thank you for do-doing what you did yesterday." I just stared at her and I guess she took it as a sign for her to continue.
" I'e been quite lonely these past few days and I want you to know that you were the only one who tried to make me feel better... Thank you again."
I was pretty shocked to say the least, I mean it's not everyday that your crush is talking to you.
"No problem..um, if you don't mind me asking, why were you sad?" i said, hoping she would open up to me. Then she moved closer, sitting beside me. RIGHT BESIDE ME.
"I just felt..used. By my friends, I mean. They- they just used me to gain popularity and all these other useless stuff and I just-"
"Okay, stop Jane!" i said. She was surprised by what I just said but she just let me continue.
"Look, I may not be your "ideal friend", but I may be just what you need.- a true friend. Being with the popular kids is great but are they really your friends? No! You know why? Cause I saw this girl crying yesterday about it. I don't mean to sound cheesy or anything but maybe you just need to hang out with different people, expand your horizons, if you want, you could hang out with me and-"
"Yes! Thanks, Andrew!" she said, hugging me. And then she left.
I barely slept that night. I mean, Jane Lewis just hugged me.- Jane, MY Jane, hugged ME!
Since then though, we became really great friends. We always spent time together.-joke around, laugh, have fun. This went on for a few months, us being just friends until one day, I decided to kick it up a notch.
From just friends to being more than friends.
