On the car ride home after school the following day, I tried to talk to her.

"Hey babe?" i said, nervous.

"What is it?" she said, holding my hand.

"If I were to go away, for a little while, would you wait for me?"

"What sparked this sudden realization?" , she said in a teasing tone, which just hurt me even more.

She looked at me and I smiled bitterly. Then in a soft voice she said:

"Yes, Andrew. You know I would, I promise." That statement gave me a surge of hope, hope that she would do it.

"But then again, I know you wouldn't leave me, because if you did, then I'm totally not gonna wait for you." she said, laughing. And at that exact moment, I knew couldn't tell her the truth.

Wow. Way to crush my spirit and murder my soul. This is all your fault, Dad!

The following days, I stayed away from her and told one of my friends to break the news for her. Because as cowardly as I am, I can't bear to see her reaction when she realizes the truth. So, I called Andy, my bestfriend.

"Dude, just tell her the truth and give her this.." handing him a piece of paper. The paper contained my final words to her because I was too gutless to say it to her face.

"Dude, you're a total douche for doing this, no offense. But you have to realize that once you're gone, you can't come back."

"Why are you saying this?" i said, my brows furrowed together, eyeing him in suspicion.

He didn't respond but instead, he just shrugged. I was genuinely confused only to find out later the reason why.
