Chapter 1

A year earlier:

Caitlyn and I are sitting in our apartment. We recently moved back to it because we are FINALLY seniors at UCLA. We have been dreaming of this day since middle school.

Truthfully, without Caitlyn here I don't know if I could survive. Caitlyn has helped me get through these past few years. She kept me sane when things got really tough. Like last year, my parents cut me off because I had been skipping a few psychology classes. My professor was just too boring. I couldn't stand going to class.

So, I just decided why not miss a few classes. It couldn't hurt, right? That's what I thought, but then he told my parents about it. Once they got involved, it was awful. My mom tried to calm dad down, but she couldn't. So, he decided to cut my money off and force me to get a job. If I didn't get a job, then I wouldn't have any money at all.

So, Caitlyn helped me to get a few different jobs up until this past summer. Then, I went home for summer break and worked at a local bookstore- called Dena's Book and Things. Everything was fine with my parents, except occasionally dad yelling at me about my classes.

Then, I went back to school, and that's where we are now. Caitlyn and I just finished moving back in.

"This is the life," Caitlyn says as she flops onto the couch, "I've missed this place!"

"Me too, my parents drove me crazy this summer," I say as I join her on the couch.

She takes a quick look at my facial expression and says, "Erin it's alright. We'll find you a new job this year. Then, when you become a big time psychologist, your dad will be so sorry and he'll coming apologizing to you."

I smile and say, "Thanks Cait. I love you."

"I love you too, E."

She then turns on our television and sees her favorite celebrity: Ryder Spence. He's a superstar who Caitlyn and basically everyone else is obsessed with.

"Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god!" She squeals.

I sigh, "Caitlyn please calm down. He's just a famous guy talking on the news."

"E, you don't understand. Read the headline and shut up and listen."

I scan the screen and read:

The way you hurt me looking for Ryder Spence's new female co-star.

I then hear Ryder Spence talking about the movie and explaining what to do at the casting call if you are to go.

"Okay, Cait, why does that matter to you? They'll get some well-known actress." I laugh.

"Erin, he just said they're doing a casting call in Los Angeles!"

"Yeah, like I said. Wait they're doing it here?" I ask, shocked.

"Yeah smart one," she says sarcastically, "Oh my God, we have to go!"

"I really don't want to audition. I'll go and support you though."

"This could be your shot though, E. Imagine your dad's reaction if you got the part!"

I think about it for a minute and then say, "Yeah right, imagine me on a movie. I'd be awful." I laugh.

"Whatever, but I'm still going. And you're coming too."

"Okay fine, what time does it start?"

She looks at the screen and sighs, "5:00. I only have four hours. Oh my God!"

I laugh.

"It's not funny. E! I want this part!"

"And you'll get it. Just stay calm and get ready!"

She nods and walks to her room to get ready. I know Caitlyn and I know she will do a great job at the audition, even with the short amount of time she has to prepare. I walk past the mirror and stop to look at myself. I can't help but wonder if I were to audition. What if I could get the part? What if I proved myself to my dad? What if I became an actress?

I sigh and walk to my room. We all know that's never going to happen.
