By the time I finished with my shower and packed my things, that I thought I might need for my first day of school, dad was fine.
I greeted them at the front door to the house and we quickly set off through the woods.
I felt slightly nervous thinking about my first day. What would the teachers be like? What would everyone be like?
I noticed though that after a little while the same feeling was there, only different in the sense that I was being watched. I could sense someone or something watching us as we strolled through the dense oak forest.
I looked to my parents to see if they noticed a difference but, they were still talking and laughing. It was probably just my own mind tricking me but it didn't matter as I jumped. A red fuzzy squirrel running from the thicket.
My parents turned quickly only to laugh at my shocked face. But even as I laughed with them I still couldn't help feeling a set of eyes on us. Wearily I kept looking around as we trekked deeper into the woods.
My mind was so thick with thoughts that I hadn't even noticed my parents stopped until I walked into the back of my mom.
'Ow! Olive seriously be careful!' my mom cried.
'Sorry wasn't watching were I was going mom' I said.
My dad was clearly finding this amusing, sniggering into his hand until my mom pinched his cheek, hard.
'What the hell was that for?' he pouted.
'For being you sweety. For being you' she smiled.
I looked up to find a beautiful old tree before us. I could feel the magic rolling off of it in waves hugging and enveloping me as I stood in awe.
It was truly magnificent, with its great dark brown complexion and greedy arms reaching up high. But, what really caught my attention was its trunk. It was twisted in two, one part over the other. I couldn't help but think of ying and yang, how they both complete opposites yet, when together fit perfectly.
'Manga Foribus, the Great Portal. It's said that its the life source of this entire wood. It appeared after two lovers ,hand in hand, walked round and round in a circle until they died. They did this to produce a tree that would grant their people safety, somewhere to escape when times were hard', my dad told me.
'Aut in alteram partem, let us through' my mom whispered into the air.
A great creaking noise filled the air as the trunk unfurled its thick torso, creating a whole in its middle. I could see to the other side, a mirror image of the spot we now stood in, Only there was a talk slender man and a similar looking girl on the other side.
Nodding at my parents we walked through together, to the other side.
I landed with a thud on the other side and my might I add on my bum, or posterior whichever tickles your fancy. Meanwhile my gracefully landing parents were already talking with the man.
I groaned as I tried to stand up only to land on the ground again due to everyone swimming in my head. Stupid portal and stupid feet landing parents I mean they just ignore their helpless child lying on the ground.Hmph!
Somewhere above my head I heard a girl giggle. ' Its gets easier with time trust me and anyway you did very well for your first go' she said helping me up.
I wiped the lead debris off of my backside and snorted. ' Yeah, well I bet you didn't embarrass yourself like I did just now'.
'Well no actually I landed on my face and got a mouth full of leaves and dirt my first time' she laughed.
I smiled at her and noticed how elegant she looked. Her body was tall and slim with long limbs to match . Her face was sharp with high cheekbones just visible under her fair peachy skin. 'Are you a dancer?' I blurted out and quickly covered my mouth. 'I mean do you dance like...are you a ballerina?'.
'Yes.How did you know. I dance every Tuesday' she replied shocked.
I grinned. I was usually right with my presumptions on people. It creeped a lot of people out how I could know something about them by just the way they walked, talked, or looked. I call it the intuition of a clever mind that just happens to fail at math most of the time.
A few minutes later we all headed the short distance to the school campus were I would get quite a shock.
