Darkwood Academy
Usually, in any normal world, where people go to receive education its in a building. Usually that building will have walls and corners and so on, so it was surprising to see no such idea would of crossed my principles mind.
To put it bluntly it was a carnival. Yes. My school was a practically desolate bloody carnival, save for the few people who were milling around setting things up. I was schocked. What were my parents thinking?
I looked to Sumner Jackson, she had told me her name earlier and must I say it really suited her with her long red hair. Nudging her I whispered, a little too loudly,'Why didn't you tell me the school was a carnival?'
She giggled along with my parents, her father, Mr. Xavier Jackson, simply smiled and informed me.
'This', he said pointing to the carnival, 'is a treat for all students before school starts tomorrow. Everyone will be allowed down a short while after dinner. The school', he said pointing to behind the carnival,'is hidden from everyone but students and council members'.
With a suddenly dramatic wave of his big hand the school appeared. This time I was really pleased more so than shocked. It was a castle. Cool.
'It's called Darkwood Academy, it suits it doesn't it? Well I hope you like it as much as I do, but I do live here so I had no choice there, but it grows on you', Sumner told me. I was about to ask her why she lived there when she answered my question.
'My dad is the Principle as well as being on the council, he's a busy man', she laughed.
I wondered what it would be like to live here. Not bad I guessed. The castle was gigantic and familiar looking with its grey cobblestoned exterior. I've seen it before, somewhere and more than once.
I inquired about it to Sumner and she nodded surprised by my observance. 'Well done! Not many people notice that they have seen it before. It was used in Harry Potter but, only the exterior which they also changed slightly so no one would recognize it. The landscape was also changed for that same reason'.
I was entranced as we headed towards one of the archways that adorned the castle. Inside the archway was a small garden and fountain in the middle that had paths leading off into several directions into the castle. We took the first one on the left.
'Summer if you would so kindly show all of us to your room', asked her father. Why would we be going to her room? I looked to my parents wondering if they knew why but they were too busy talking about someone not knowing about anything and their belongings arriving. Weird.
I followed everyone in the spiral stone steps into a long corridor that seemed to run for a mile but obviously didn't. Pink. That's the first word that would best and bluntly describe it. The walls were flush pink while the carpet was a deep one almost a magenta colour. Doors littered the hallway on both sides with great gaps between. Obviously the rooms were very big in size.
Candles were also on either side of the hall, held by decorative metal holders that were luckily for my eyes not pink.I took a lucky guess that this was the living quarters for them. I also guessed that Sumner was responsible for the hideous decor. This proved a possible obstacle in our friendship. I am not a fan of this much pink.
We all strolled down the hall and stopped at the third door when Sumner pulled out a coloured key. Can you guess the colour? Yes, pink keys! She proceeded to unlock the heavy wooden door and welcomed us into her room which was gigantic and.......purple? Maybe our friendship could be saved after all.
The purple was a welcome from the eyesore outside. The room was as I already said gigantic with two of everything: two beds, two desks, two chairs, two chests at the end of each bed, two lamps. The only thing that there was one of was the big walk in wardrobe in the middle of the opposite wall. I knew it was a wardrobe due to the doors being open clearly showing clothes. It acted as divider, dividing the room into two.
'I share my room with my best friend Grace. Your welcome to come and visit or sleepover anytime you feels like it' she told me.
I was about to give my thanks but that it wouldn't be necessary as I lived close by when my principle said rather too abruptly,' Right thank you Sumner we'll be on our way' and with that ushered the rest of us out.
We continued down the corridor stopping at the last door, '18' it read in gold metal.
Again we unlocked the door with pink keys, what other colour could it of been?
This time when the door was opened I was taken aback. It was....beautiful. Like Sumners it was gigantic. but what I took an immediate liking to was the ivy green walls and apex ceiling that leaked soothing vibes off of them.
Another thing that was different from Sumners room was the furniture had no duplicate on the other side. It was still the same big four poster bed with the trunk at the end but without on twin. Also the wardrobe was on the left side.
I froze as my eyes re.scanned the room.Certain objects looked a little to like mine, for instance the fuzzy brown bear wearing a charm bracelet as a necklace. I squinted my eyes boring them into his little fluffy soul as he lay there on the bed, not a care in the world. Meanwhile the facts caught up with me and I did the 'Olive' as my parents call it. You see, when im angry or sad I talk slow and calm, almost too calm, showing no emotion.
'You lied to me. You said school, not boarding school. Last time I checked the dictionary the meaning of school is a place you attend for several hours and then get to go home'.
'We had to sweety. It's for your own good. We have no powers to protect you until your ready to take over the council. Xavier suggested that you board here closer to your studies and he'll take over the council until you are ready!' my mum said meanwhile my dad also saying.
'Your mothers right Olive and believe us we hate it darling, we had no choice'.
'There is always a choice parents, always. From now on I will no longer call you mum or dad, I will acknowledge you as my parents and no more', I whispered. I was too tired to say anymore and so I bid them a good day as my principle led them away. It was drastic yes but they were the only people I could rely on to help me figure out the mess I managed to get myself into. I hadn't even told them about my tattoo , which may not actually be a good idea now that I think of it.
I closed the door gently sinking against it and sliding down onto the floor and cried. I cried for a long time. For myself, my dilemma, not being able to have anyone to talk to, at my parents abandoning me and at my stupidity for not asking the gorgeous boy his name last night.
The last thing wasn't really a good thing to cry about but, I was upset and as sexist as it is, i'm a girl and i'lll just blame it on my hormones.
The self pitying thoughts carried on until after a while I fell asleep against the door, faintly aware of my watch reading 12.30.
