chapter 2
I gasped with such a force that knocked me back into my armoire. Vulpine hissed at me as if she was startled from her sleep, Vulpine it's me, Laila. I stared at her in horror when I realized I couldnt talk but she heard me, as if I spoke to her through my thoughts. She yipped and curled up next to my enormous body. I seemed to have been growing because now I was about the size of 2 horses and I hardly fit in my room. Every part of me was pressed up against a wall.
Laila is everything ok? whispered a silky smoothe voice into my thoughts.
Who is there? I ask in defense. I look around as best as I can but I can hardly turn my head.
It is I, Vulpine, I am your guardian and pet. I eyed Vulpine in disbelief.Vulpine closes her eyes and explains herself. I am a guardian character, born on this earth in the body of a mere creature. My sole duty is to guide you through your journey. That is why I have not aged since the day you got me when you were but the age of 3. Your mother asked me to be here for you, I have grown to accept you as more than a chore but as a family member. But that is not the point, the point is that you are now 16 and you must make your long awaited trip back to Avalea, the dragon kingdom, where your mother awaits you and will join you on a very important mission.
I couldnt believe what I was hearing. What about Grams and Grandpa? Who are they to me?
Vulpine looked me in the eyes , they have no relation to you what so ever, they took you in when you were just a baby but they love you so much.
I felt the tears in my eyes, for all I knew, my life was a total lie. I shook the emotions away. Vulpine, how is this possible?
I am not sure , that is why you must head to Avalea and seek your destiny. Vulpine got up and headed towards the window.
Not yet, I cant leave yet. I cant leave without saying goodbye, and also I dont even know how to fly. I tried to give Vulpine my best 'puppy face' and I think I won her over.
Fine, we will master transformation, then flying and lastly using your power. Vulpine stepped away from the window and pressed her paw, which I never noticed till now had a dragon shaped mark on it, onto my forehead. My body felt strange, as the room became bigger I got dizzy but then I realized I got smaller. By the time my body settled I was still facing my mirror. I sighed in relief as I saw that I was back to normal, well whatever normalcy seemed to be before the twist of fate I had just been through. I realized my transformation left me bare of clothing, I looked at my crushed armoire and was able to pull out a night gown. Slipping it over my head I looked at Vulpine.
"Lets get some rest, I assume training starts tomorrow?" I said as I crawled into my bed, which surprisingly stayed in tact after my dragon body laying on top of it. Vulpine crawled next to me and after a few minutes I felt her breathes lengthen and I knew she was asleep. I stared up at my mahogany wood ceiling, How is this even possible? When would I see mother? Would I have to leave Grams and Grandpa? These thoughts flew through my head. I pulled my covers over my head and closed me eyes and soon enough I drifted off into a deep sleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I felt a soft nudge on my cheek, but I refused to open my eyes. I rolled onto my stomach and groaned.
Wake up Laila, It's time for training. I opened one eye and saw Vulpine just staring at me. I closed my eye once again and pushed myself up.
"Fine, fine. I am up." I muttered. I pulled my hair up into a ponytail and changed into a pair of pants and a loose shirt. I slipped on some boots and got a glance im the mirror. My eyes were the same sapphire color but my pupil had a more oval shape. My long mahogany red hair had a more dark tone to it. I pushed open my door and walked to the kitchen with Vulpine. "Good morning Grams and Grandpa" I said with a smile.
Grams looked at me and smile "Good morning sweetie." I leaned over the counter and grabbed a slice of bread and slipped it into my mouth. It was warm in my mouth so I assumed it was freshly baked.
"Why the hurry?" asked Grandpa as he raised an eyebrow.
I stopped dead where I stood. "Early hunting" I nodded as if I were trying to believe my own lie.
Grandpa waved his hands in dismissal, so Vulpine and I ran out the door. Before I could go anywhere I had to tend to Silver. About 15 minutes later we were off into the forest and headed to sunset valley which wasnt too far from where we lived.
"Whats my mom like?" I asked Vulpine.
She's alot like you. Brave, honest, and knows when to do what is right. She is a very easy person to love. But after she had to leave you she always had a sadness in her eyes. Vulpine looked at me once she said that. Your the only light in her life at this point.
"You seem to know alot about her" I diverted my eyes to the rising sun.
Her and I go way back. Vulpine said with a laugh.
When we arrived at Sunset Valley, the air was still humid and dew clung to the grass. The land was totally flat except for a few hills here and there. I was to busy gaping at the view to realize that Vulpine was staring at me.
"Oh sorry, so how will we begin?" I say as I set down my weapons.
Vulpine stands onto a rock, First you have to close your eyes. Then imagine yourself transforming into a dragon.
I take a deep breath then close my eyes. I furrow my brows in frustration, and try to concentrate on transforming. I feel a tiny change but after that nothing happens. I open my eyes and look at her. Vulpine gives me a look that gestures me to try again. I close my eyes.
"What color dragon is my mom?" I ask curiously.
Thats not what you should be thinking about, Vulpine says with a laugh, but if you must know then she was a majestic royal purple dragon with golden horns.
I smile, thinking of how beautiful she must be. Instead of trying to think of how I transform, I try to see my mom turning into a gracious purple dragon. I feel my hand burn. I think I got it, I think to myself. I open my eyes and I see that I am still the same except for I know have a dragon left arm rather than a human arm. I stumble and fall due to the weight of this dragon limb.
"Oh crap!" I leaned agains my arm and stare In amazement. I never got a good look at it through the mirror. I thought it was a regular black color but in the sun there are sapphire blue undertones on my jetblack scales.
Great, now you have to do that with the rest of your body, Vulpine says with a smile. She lays down as if she knows we are going to be here for a while. Her glistening yellow fur blows slightly in the wind and her amber eyes are locked onto me.
I nod, then close my eyes. I see myself once again buts a memory of the night before, when I first transformed. I remember my sapphire eyes in the mirror, my claws etched into the wall, my tail curled up around me, and my wings... oh how badly I want to see my wings. Then it starts, a fire burns inside of me but I dont feel pain, I just feel warmth and I let it consume me.
When the fire stops I open my eyes and catch a glimps of a flame before it goes out. I look at Vulpine, whose eyes were wide and she stood speechless for a moment.
What is it?, I say to her. I realize I spoke to her through her thoughts just like last night. I look down to my claws and see my black talons. I feel a grin spread across my face, but realize it must look creepy because of my fangs. I turn my head around to see my tail resting on the floor, it has sapphire spikes sticking out of it. But the part I am most excited about are my wings, I spread them out and they glisten in the sun. I stare in awe, taking in every detail. Along the edges of my wing I have sharp blade like talons sticking out.
Pretty nice right, States Vulpine. She calls my attention over to her. She gives me a smile and says, Training starts now.
