                       chapter 4

I looked around saw some chains sprawled out on the floor. My fingers traced over it before I picked it up and walked over to the trapped guard.

" Give me your arms" I demanded.

Out of fear he stuck his arms out obediently,  and I wrapped the chain around his wrists as if he were my prisoner but at this moment that is exactly what he was.

I kicked a branch causing it to snap and it allowed him to crawl out from under the tree. Vulpine was silent but followed me wherever I went. I tugged at the chains, indicating that we were about to embark on a little king hunt.

" Where is the king? " I whispered, I could see grams and grandpa out of the corner of my eyes and I felt weak.

"I cannot betray the king to a monster like.... where are you going?" I tied the chains to a tree and began pulling leaves off of the fallen tree. I covered Grams and Grandpa with leaves and flowers till they were fully covered and looked like mounds of nature. I closed my eyes then walked to the chain and grabbed hold of the end that was not tightly wrung around the wrists of my prisoner.

"where is the king?" I said a bit louder and more impatiently.

" I will not say" he replied stubbornly.

I turned my head to him, eyes glistening with anger and saddness. " When I find him I will kill him, and you. And I promise I will find him."

The guard fell silent and I tugged on the chain and began walking. Vulpine walked by my side and for once the forest was quiet, not a bird singing, a squirrel chattering, or a wolf howling. It was as if the forest felt my saddness.

After an hour the guard broke the silence, "can we take a break, im exhausted."

I stopped, not realizing how tired I was. I couldn't bring myself to speak to this murderer. I tied the chain to a tree and the guard plopped down on the floor.

" Jeez I have never been this exhausted" he yawned as he stretched.

I stared in confusion, how could he just act so casual even after he killed them? Is he so used to murdering that it doesn't bother him?

He looked at me curiously "What is your name?" His blonde hair shifted as he tilted his head.

I simply glared at him, and said nothing. It felt like I couldnt speak so I made no effort to converse.

"Ah, Laila" he said, I knew Vulpine had telepathically told him. I looked at her but she did not return the glance. "Well im Kyron" he said with a smirk.

I leaned my head on a tree and closed my eyes. "Shut up" I hissed.

I opened one eye to look at him,  but he had layed down and fallen asleep. I looked up at the night sky and thought about the events that occured that day.

What if I didnt got flying today? Would I have been able to save Grams and Grandpa?

I closed my eyes and took a sigh. What dragon would have told the king about me? And more importantly, why?

---------------------

I felt a nudge on my side, I groaned " five more minutes grams" I tried to go bacm to sleep.

It's me, Vulpine said, It's time to wake up.

I opened my eyes and looked around,  I saw a strange man laying down and tied to a chain. Instantly, the memories of yesterdays events flooded my head. I felt tears stinging my eyes but I wouldnt let it show.

"The village is near by, I will go buy some food. stay here and watch him." I instructed to Vulpine. She nodded as I stood up and made my way past some trees till a little village came into view.

I bought 3 loafs of bread, a bucket of milk, 2 apples and a fish. There were little children at play and some people looked at me weirdly. Must have been the dirt on my face. I saw an old man chanting something in a different language. But strangely I knew what he was saying.

" The rise of the dragon, the fall of a king, the dragon who betrayed that of his own kin" The old man looked at me and I flinched. I looked away and headed back to Vulpine.

When I got to her I gave her the bread and fish. I gave the guard his own bread and an apple and I had the same.

He looked at me cautiously before he started eating. I thought back to that old man and the song he sand.

"Vulpine what does kin mean?" I asked.

It means family or having a relation to someone,  She informed me.

I played the words back in my mind. Was the song about me? But then that would mean my mother betrayed me. No, the old man said 'his' I stopped chewing for a moment, Do I have a father?
