#Callie's P.O.V#
Lizzie shows up, knocking on the classroom door. Mrs. Drawerson opens the door for her.Lizzie walks in, partially tilting her head at me. I roll my eyes, pointing at my board on the desk.
"Alright, Callie, care to explain why I called her to come here?" Mrs. Drawerson looks at me.
I shrug.
"That's all she's been doing, shrugging. I caught her drawing on her board, not paying attention to anything I was teaching, and when I took away the board and asked her a question, she didn't answer." Mrs. Drawerson complains.
"There's a reason for that." Lizzie says, looking at me.
"What reason could there possibly be? She misses school all the time, doesn't pay attention, and doesn't participate! I'd like to hear an excuse for that one." She rolls her eyes.
"Callie's mute." Lizzie says, grabbing the board off the table and tossing it to me.
I scribble down a 'thank you.'
Mrs. Drawersons face goes pale. "O-oh, I'm sorry..." She starts.
"Come on, Callie." Lizzie says, standing up. I stand up as well.
"B-but the absences?" The teacher stutters out.
Lizzie turns around. "Talk to the office about that, you oblivious bit-" She manages to say, before I pull her out of the room.
"Now, what class do you have?" Lizzie asks me.
'Art. Why didn't Joel come?'
"He... was busy. I'll see you after school, Callie." She says, tears brimming in her eyes when I mention Joel.
I look at her with concern. 'Are you okay?'
"Yeah, Callie. Enjoy the rest of the day. I'll pick you up after school." She says, kissing my forehead then rushing off.
I sigh, walking off to Art.
As usual, nobody seems to take notice that I'm here, or that I've arrived late.
I go through the class, still thinking about Lizzie, and why she was about to cry when I mentioned Joel.
As the bell rang, I shake the thought out of my head and start to go to lunch.
"Where ya going, nerd?" Will pulls me back.
I roll my eyes.
"So, why don't you talk, nerd?" He shoves me up against the wall.
I shake my head, struggling to get him off of me.
"Stop struggling, nerd. Answer me. What's wrong with you?" He asks, shoving me to the wall harder.
I whimper in pain.
"What, gone mute?" He asks.
I nod slowly.
"Ha! Good, no one deserves to hear that pathetic excuse of a voice." He says, taking me away from the wall, only to throw me back at it again.
"I guess you can't tell me to stop, then. What's this?" He grabs my board from my stuff.
I try to jump to get it back, but he moves out of the way.
"Pfft, you don't need this!" He says, chucking it at the wall behind us, causing it to break into a few little pieces.
I gasp, putting my head back against the wall.
