Panting, Jason backed off. He had to find an opening, something, to give him the edge. Some fighting chance! He switched from his spear to his sword, maybe that would help. His opponent just grinned, grinned like she knew she was going to win.

Clarisse.

Ares's daughter. Head of her cabin and spear user.

And one hell of a fighter.

Jason was sweating bullets but Clarisse just kept grinning. Jason went for the attack and was pinned down to the ground with a spear at his throat two seconds later. Great.

"You should know better than go at me with a sword. I've fought so much with Percy that I know exactly how to counter." The girl didn't even offer her hand to help Jason up, she just adjusted her bandana and twirled her spear.

"So, not even Percy can beat you?" Jason had to find out more about this guy, they were supposed to work together, how could they do that if they didn't know each other.

"Oh he can, he does, often." She didn't even seem ashamed by that. How? "But I learned how to fight against less skilled swordsmen because I fight him so often." Jason tried to not let that sting, she just called him less skilled, maybe she didn't mean it? "So once you switched to the sword I knew I had you. But don't sweat it, I'm sure you can get better with some help from Percy, he teaches classes here when he isn't off saving the world." She rolled her eyes and scoffed but Jason saw the smile on her face.

Great.

Jason sighed and stood up, then left the arena. He decided to go check on the Agro II, Leo was working on it nonstop, with Annabeth and both their cabins. The other cabins help out however much they can, everyone seemed to have one goal in finishing it, get Percy back. And Jason tried to not let it sting.

Percy was their hero, their leader, besides Annabeth. They trusted him and respected him, had grown up with him. Jason was a stranger, he came from a different camp, he was the 'replacement' for Percy. The campers tried not to let their disappointment show whenever Jason was around, but he saw it in their faces, heard it when they sometimes started to call him Percy, not Jason.

And it stung, because it wasn't like he choose to be here, he didn't want to take their leader away. And he knew they didn't mean it that way but. . . It still hurt.

Leo and Piper were the only one actually happy to see him. Because neither of them knew Percy.

What had he done to make everyone like him so much? Jason had done a lot, just from being here, plus what he had done before, what he remembered bits and pieces from. But they still didn't. . . not trust, because they did trust him, they didn't want him. They didn't want anything to do with him because he wasn't Percy.

Then there was Annabeth.

Percy's girlfriend. His best friend, Daughter of Athena and head of her cabin. She had grey eyes that were cold and calculating. Jason didn't understand how Percy had fallen for her if she was always like this. She never smiled, never laughed. When she was in her best mood she had no expression at all.

Was Percy the same? Was he someone cold and off-putting?

Was Annabeth really like that?

He tried asking around but no one wanted to talk about it. Like it was a precious secret that if told would destroy it. A prized possession that they couldn't risk with outsiders. Jason tried to not let that sting either, but it did. It made it worse not knowing if Percy was getting the same treatment. Was New Rome shunning him? Not wanting him?

They would think he was a son of Neptune, they don't get the warmest welcome. But he's powerful. Would he get a praetor ship? Would Reyna trust him? Would it be easy?

Jason had all of this tumbling around his head for days, weeks. But it was even worse when his sister showed up to give a report to Annabeth.

Thalia had a grim look on her face, like someone who was missing a piece of themselves. She patted Jason on the back then walked up to Annabeth before both girls left to go sit in the Big House. Now Jason was upset.

How would this work if everyone was depressed? Why had Hera done this if there was no way that he could take Percy's place? That's what set him towards the Big House.

When he knocked to come in he heard shuffling then a muffled 'come in' so he did. Annabeth sat on a couch with her back to the door, Thalia sat beside her but facing the door. Her eyeliner seemed smudged a bit, and her voice was strained when she talked. "What Jason?"

No, nice to see you. No, hey baby brother. Just what. . . Jason gritted his teeth.

"I just wanted to talk about something with you two." Thalia cast a look to Annabeth before nodding for Jason to sit down. When he did he saw that Annabeth's eyes were slightly red and her knuckles where white from her grip. "I just. . . I want to know about Percy. I have heard anything but bits and pieces and I just-I want to know."

Thalia bit her lip before casting a glance to Annabeth. Annabeth leaned back in her seat and met Thalia's eyes "Fine, We'll tell you about him." Thalia sighed before she kept talking, "He's a goofball, he does think things through completely before doing them. He is a Kelp head."

"But he's my Seaweed Brain." Annabeth had a ghost of a smile on her lips, that surprised Jason. "He's loyal to a fault, and never gives up on anyone. If you mess with someone he cares about you will regret it." Annabeth sighed and Thalia smiled at her. "He's a mama's boy. He puts everyone on a pedestal and feels like he isn't worth of them."

"He's powerful and a great leader. He has fear but doesn't let it control him because he knows people need him." Thalia continued both girls were smiling now. "He is sarcastic and annoying but sweet and caring. He snuck out of camp to go on a quest just to help save Annabeth."

"Hey, no! Artemis needed saving, I just was there too." Annabeth blushed. This was the most emotion that Jason had seen from her, it was unnerving.

"Nope, he didn't care about the goddess, and did I ever tell you that Aphrodite showed up just to talk to him? When we asked him about it he wouldn't say what she wanted but the warning she gave, but he was blushing bright red the whole time." Thalia teased, Annabeth just rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.

"But Percy. . . You'll just have to meet him to understand." Annabeth summed up.

And so Jason waited to meet him. And when he did, he let all the jealous thoughts leave his head, because he understood. Percy was. . . Percy.
