The day is the slam poetry contest came and both boys were nervous. Grayson however, was more than Ethan. Being the anxious person he is; he sat back stage on a black chair tapping his foot, biting his nails and pulling at his hair occasionally.
"Gray don't worry we'll be fine" Ethan said.
"Ethan I don't wanna do this anymore." Graysons voice trembled "i–im scared and nervous and I—" He was cut toff by a man walking into the room. He wore a black hat, beige khakis, a yellow shirt and headphones.
"Ethan Baqour and Grayson Souid, you're up" he smiled at them.
Grayson gave Ethan a worried look but Ethan wrapped his arm around Grayson's shoulders reassuringly. "Lead the way" he smiled at the man. The man took the to the stage entrance.
"You go up there in fifteen seconds." The man told them.
"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one.. go" he told them and they both went up to the stage.
They adjusted their mics and Grayson looked at Ethan who gave him a reassuring smile.
He saw his mother in the stage videoing. Ethan saw the same with his parents.
"Alright everyone, this is Ethan Baqour and Grayson Souid saying their poem, 'love is love'" the host said and everyone clapped their hands.
"Seventeen years ago I was born. A Jewish boy to a Jewish family." Grayson spoke.
"Seventeen years ago I was born. A Muslim boy to a Muslim family." Ethan said.
"We were always taught the basics" they said in sync.
Grayson: "go to synagogue
Ethan: "go to mosque"
Grayson: "fast Yom Kippur"
Ethan: "fast Ramadan"
Grayson: "girls have to wear wigs"
Ethan: "girls have to wear hijabs""We only knew of our own. When the opposite religion was brought up in conversation all we would hear was," they turned around and looked at each other
Grayson: "filthy Muslims"
Ethan: "big nose bankers"
Grayson: "go back home"
Ethan: "penny picking snobs""But what if, we actually sat down to know each other" they said in sync
"What if we actually got along" Ethan said
"We'd notice how similar we are" they said in sync.
"Why can we just put away society's assumptions on each religion and talk." Grayson said in a questioning tone.
"Why is it that every time i go to school and nine eleven comes up everyone has to turn their head to me?" Ethan asked.
"And why is it that every time I go to school and the holocaust comes up everyone has to look at me?" Grayson asked.
"Why can we just live peacefully with one another?" The asked in sync.
"Our hands must be caught together, raised as one, fighting off the stereotypical thoughts this country has put upon our people." They said in sync.
Thy continued together "And if we do, maybe, we wouldn't be as ashamed to do this" they said stepping away from the mics bringing their lips together. Moving smoothly together. They pulled away hands locking together they both went back to their mics, hands still locked and they spoke,
"Love is love; there is no barrier. Neither race, gender, color, or religion can stop Love." They said giving each other a quick peck on the lip. They smiled at each other and rose their hands up and everyone stood up applauding their bravery.

Love is love. No one can change that. No one can tell you who to, and not to love. Whether it's a boy, a girl, even both, a black person, a white person, a Muslim, a Jew, a Christian. We are all equal. We all can love who we want. Because love has no barrier.
If you love the person you are with. Hold their hand and raise it up High for everyone to see. Make sure the people who hate what you love, see it. Cuz you can love whoever you want.
❤️🧡💛🏳️🌈 Love Is Love. 🏳️🌈💚💙💜
